STV is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Rail Systems Engineering Co-op student to join our team. This internship offers an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate-level candidates to work alongside our experienced team, learn, and contribute to meaningful projects. This hybrid position requires at least 3 days a week in the office. Preference will be given to those who can participate in the internship for at least 3 months.

Our Co-op will assist mechanical and electrical consulting engineers and Project Managers in various tasks related to rail passenger vehicles and occasionally railroad signaling and rail traction power systems. Duties include any or all of the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with design reviews or problem-solving on rail vehicle subsystems (HVAC, Propulsion, Braking, etc.).

  • Information take-offs from engineering drawings, and drawing interpretation.

  • Occasionally, AutoCAD, Inventor, Sketch-up and other modeling projects.

  • Spreadsheet, database, and programming development.

  • Note-taking for project, technical, and design review engineering meetings, possibly at client locations.

  • Test data processing and analysis.

  • Support for field tests and inspection of rail rolling stock, possibly at client locations.

  • Assist with technical specification development for the procurement and overhaul of rail vehicles.

  • Preparation of correspondence, reports, and other formal documents for internal or client communication.

  • Writing/reviewing test procedures and engineering change requests for mechanical and electrical systems and equipment.

  • Assist with review of engineering project documents, including Maintenance Manuals, Submittals, etc.

Required:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering at an ABET-accredited University or NCEES equivalent.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of the organization.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Compensation Range:

$40,874.00 - $54,498.00
