Plays an integral role in fostering the emotional, developmental, intellectual and physical wellbeing of children within the Perioperative setting. Focusing on reducing the emotional and psychological stress that children may experience when dealing with illness, injury, or medical treatment. Providing coping strategies to help decrease anxiety or pain while empowering children throughout their healthcare experience.
* Provides developmentally appropriate preparation and education
* Offers emotional support and distraction to children undergoing surgery
* Collaborate with the medical team to ensure a child-friendly environment
* Provides family-centered care and needs assessment
* Implements and enforces hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
* Maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries with all parties at all times
* Participates in the development of standards of performance with department leadership.

Education
Bachelor's degree in child life, child development, psychology, or a related field required | Master's Degree preferred

Completion of a 600-hour internship under the supervision of a CCLS

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No

Licenses and Credentials
Certification from the Child Life Certifying Committee (CLCC) obtained within 1 year of hire

Experience
related experience 1-2 year preferred
