Job Description
The responsibilities of an HCC faculty member include teaching, college and community service, and scholarship and professional development. Teaching encompasses teaching a variety of students, including dual enrollment students; on- and off-site locations; and multiple modalities, such as face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Teaching also includes providing instruction as assigned; creating a learner-centered instructional environment; assessing instruction; attending and/or completing required training; developing and/or modifying curriculum; assisting students through academic advising; posting, and maintaining office hours; providing leadership for the development, growth, and support of the College and the assigned area; and undertaking professional community service. Other duties include supporting the mission, vision and values of the College and policies of the Board of Trustees; serving on various College committees, task forces and other groups; and participating in various official College ceremonies and meetings.

This is a 10-month, tenure-track position, which begins September 2025.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education
Master's degree in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Professional/Technical Writing or closely related writing-focused discipline.
Required Experience
At least one year of full-time college teaching experience or equivalent adjunct college teaching experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Applicants will be evaluated on criteria including, but not limited to:

  • An ability to teach English, composition, and or research writing courses using a variety of learning modalities and principles that engage students and promote active learning.
  • Experience developing instructional materials for online and face-to-face courses that are ADA compliant and use Universal Design (UD) best practices.
  • Experience assessing student learning outcomes and documenting results for continuous improvement and institutional accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Ability to engage in meaningful and innovative collaboration with faculty, staff and community partners to support student success and institutional goals.
  • Effective communication skills reflected in the application, resume and cover letter.
  • Candidates will be asked to validate teaching experience. A teaching demonstration will be part of the interview process.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of one year of online community college teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching dual enrollment and/or early college students.
  • Experience developing, adopting, or integrating Open Educational Resources (OER) in course design and instruction.

Hours per Week 40 - 100%
General Weekly Work Schedule

  • Work schedule varies based on class schedule, office hours, and other faculty responsibilities.
  • May include evening instruction.
  • May require teaching directly in Harford County public high schools.
