Position Overview:
This is a temporary/casual position. The individual hired into this position will be appointed into either a temporary (67 days or less in a calendar year) or casual appointment (14 hours or less a week). This position continually accepts applications that will be reviewed when openings occur in this department

The positions vary in areas of specialization depending on availability of funding. Work hours will vary.

Individuals not currently employed by the University of Minnesota can be hired to perform work responsibilities where the appointment:
(a) does not exceed 67 workdays in a calendar year; or
(b) may or may not exceed 67 workdays in a calendar year but hours worked per week does not exceed 14.

Students who are not enrolled at any of the University of Minnesota system campuses.

a) Individuals currently employed full time (i.e. 40 hours/week) by the University of Minnesota may also be employed in a temporary or casual position when:
The appointment does not exceed 67 workdays in a calendar year or
Appointing the second and subsequent appointments that 67 workdays but the hours worked per week on the second or subsequent appointment do not exceed 14.

This job classification will be used when the second appointment is non-exempt work, regardless of the nature of work in the first appointment OR whenever the primary appointment is non-exempt regardless of the nature of work

Qualifications

This is a continuous posting; applicants will be hired as positions become available throughout the year. The positions vary in areas of specialization depending on availability of funding. Work hours will vary. High school graduate or equivalent or work experience. These temporary positions are periodically available to individuals currently in high school (as part of the StepUp program or a similar program). Educational, certification and work experience requirements are based on and cannot exceed the qualifications for work performed in comparable UM job classifications.

About the Department

Department Overview:
The Department of Animal Science (http://www.ansci.umn.edu) in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resources Sciences (CFANS) (http://www.cfans.umn.edu/ is located on the scenic St. Paul campus. The Animal Science major, with an enrollment of around 400 students, is divided into five emphasis areas: Business/Industry, Companion Animal, Equine, Production, and Pre-Veterinary Medicine/Science. Each emphasis offers a unique combination of classes to prepare students for future careers in business, production management, companion animal, equine, veterinary medicine or graduate school. Within an emphasis, students can also specialize in a species, such as beef, companion animal, dairy, equine, poultry, swine or sheep, or develop a set of elective classes unique to their animal interests.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.25 - $30.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
