Job Description:

Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Vital Records Coordinator to work in the Records Management and Fulfillment Unit within the Bureau of Vital Records (BVR). The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring the corrections/amendment process for all death certificates occurring in New York State (outside of NYC). The job entails reviewing documentation to ensure corrections comply with program policy and public health laws, assessing data quality, gathering information for the response to inquiries from internal and external stake holders and the incumbent will provide technical assistance to funeral directors, local registrar, coroners and/or medical examiners. The incumbent will provide support for other vital records processing that may include birth, marriage and dissolution certificate issuance and/or corrections. The incumbent work with other units in BVR to contribute to death records compliance with National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) reviews and provide best practice of death certificate workflows to the inform the Electronic Vital Records Systems, Development & Support unit.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of experience processing vital records and/or medical records; OR Associates degree in a related field and four years of such experience; OR six years of such experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

At least two years of experience processing vital records and/or medical records. Experience interacting with funeral directors, physicians and/or coroners. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and database applications. Knowledge of New York State Public Health laws. At least one year experience supervising staff.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will be available.

Travel, up to 25% of the time, will be required.
