Role Summary

We are looking for a hardworking, technically strong engineer to deliver sophisticated global programs from concept to production environments. This career opportunity is within the Mass Attribute team at Rivian. Mass Attribute team leads the development of global vehicle programs' mass strategies to optimize customer attributes - Range/Payload/towing/ride dynamics/Safety certifications etc. You will be working closely with various functional teams to ensure successful implementation of optimized design and attribute solutions.


Responsibilities

Target Setting -
o Generate system level mass targets using parametric models (efficiency metrics) based on
benchmarking data and mass drivers for a system.
o Top-down vehicle targets based on high level capability and efficiency targets.
o Capture all Mass Properties requirements in JAMA
Mass Modelling -
o Determine mass distributions and inertia characteristics that are inputs to structural and
dynamic analyses as well as NVH and safety.
o Perform axle load calculations for different customer loading scenarios.
o Generate Axle Rating Targets.
Status Tracking and Attribute Guidance -
o Track mass status throughout the development cycle of the program. Gap to target
assessment.
o Communicate the development of overall vehicle mass properties against the targets.
o Provide guidance to various attribute teams - Range/Safety/Vehicle dynamics based on
mass status.
Mass Verification -
o Statistical analysis of prototype/production measured data at various production
milestones.
o Provide guidance of compliance status based on production data.
Regulatory -
o Generate Regulatory Load Rating Labels (e.g. GAWR, GVWR, Payload, etc.)
o Work closely with homologation team for all regulatory requirements relates to mass.
Occasional overnight travel to assembly plant(s) may be a possibility


Qualifications

Master's degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering,
Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science
5+ years of experience in the ground transportation or aerospace industries in an
engineering/analytical capacity
Functional understanding of EV systems and vehicle components- Battery, Powertrain, Chassis
etc.
Understanding of vehicle architecture, standard vehicle materials properties (e.g. steels,
aluminum, plastics, etc.) and assembly plant end of line processes
Background in applied statistics or Six Sigma subject areas, experience in Minitab and Visual Basic
scripts in excel.
Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills.
Solid Understanding of CATIA - 3DExperience.
Self-directed, confident individual with excellent communication skills and working knowledge of
Microsoft Office.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $121,500.00 - $151,900.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
