Product Engineer II (Coil Engineer) - Plymouth, MN - Hybrid

Daikin Applied is seeking a Product Engineer II (Coil Engineer) who will responsible for engineering aspects of products released to production after initial design development, including design of special order and customized products, maintenance and minor additions to existing products. What you will do:



  • Project Management/Leadership


    • Own all aspects of project design and delivery including hitting committed milestones, clearly communicating roadblocks to organizational leaders, multi-task key deliverables, and drive to completion with minimal oversight
    • Drive partnerships with a cross functional team including Supply Chain, Marketing, Operations, Quality, to deliver engineering solutions
    • Provide leadership to direct the activities of technical personnel assigned to projects, including: Lab Technicians, Test Engineers, Designers, or BOM Configuration programmers
    • Develop and maintain technical documentation supporting coils and materials for sealed systems


  • Technology


    • Conduct experimental evaluation and practical development of turbo machinery and sealed system refrigeration including working knowledge of instruments and transducers available for airflow, sound, fluid flow, and structural analysis
    • Use technical theories of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and HVAC fundamentals applied to air handler products including the use of both computational analysis methods and lab test apparatus
    • Create product designs that maximize manufacturing capabilities and incorporate lean manufacturing techniques by driving a strong partnership with manufacturing personnel.
    • Collaborate or coordinate efforts necessary to maintain compliance with agencies such as UL and AHRI
    • Stay abreast of emerging technologies & maintain technical competency in relevant subject matter areas via industry relationships, professional associations (ASHRAE, AHRI), & technical publications to maintain awareness of basic research activities, materials/processes, working fluids, regulatory implications, & supplier or competitive actions


  • Engineering Efficiency


    • Maintain flexibility in multiple different business unit tools and develop methods to consolidate methodology
    • Complete and maintain documentation for each project - stage gate workbook, team dashboards, ECR/ECO's, programming decision trees, and engineering standards.
    • Investigate errors, drive to root cause, and implement system solutions to prevent the error from future occurrences
    • Deliver technical recommendations and timely responses to applications and product engineering requests

Minimum Qualifications:



  • BSME with 4 years of experience (Design or Thermal Focus)
  • Tenacious individual that has a passion for finding value in product design and manufacturing via supply chain, engineering processes, and product fabrication.
  • Computational Simulation Experience (ANSYS-FEA, SolidWorks Simulation) - industry or academic acceptable
  • Ability to use standard MS Office products specifically Excel, Project and Teams to optimize product design and delivery
  • Functional understanding of HVAC fundamentals including heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
  • Familiar with CAD programs and their operation, specifically SolidWorks
  • Familiar with finance, with the ability to generate Cost Studies
  • Detail orientated with strong organizational, intrapersonal, and communications skills
  • Ability to work autonomously with little oversight, self-directed daily activities/project schedules
  • Strong experience with sealed systems, fluid dynamics and system optimization
  • Experience with design process and stage gate project management process


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Lean Six Sigma Certification
  • Project Management certification

The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $83,300 - $105,900 in Minnesota. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
