Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Software Systems Operations Lead to work in our Autonomous Engineering department. Our team works a 9x80 or 4x10 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

The Autonomous Engineering Department leads research into the application of AI & data-driven design techniques towards accelerating the design and construction timelines of advanced energy projects. The department focuses on changing the way project personnel author and manage engineering data, building digital engineering ecosystems to connect this data, and leveraging emerging software technologies to increase intelligent automation across the project lifecycle. This group consists of engineers and scientists with backgrounds in both traditional engineering disciplines (mechanical, civil, etc.) and software development, collectively committed to securing our energy future by eliminating repetitive and time consuming tasks currently bottlenecking engineering and construction workflows.

Responsibilities Include:



  • Lead/manage IT projects from conception through implementation and closeout by using project management skills, knowledge, and standard methodologies. Create, track, and supervise project schedules, budgets, and create vital project documentation such as Work Breakdown Structures, Project Plans, Risk Registers, etc. Develop and manage annual work planning for assigned programs and projects. Elicit, gather, supervise, and document business and technical requirements. Optimize and streamline processes, methods, and best practices while ensuring quality project delivery.
  • Ensure that the scope of work to be performed is clear, concise, and executable by working with the customer and the primary owner to establish firm project/task requirements. Resolve conflicts with customer requirements, technical activities and project team member performance. Develop effective strategies in support of specific projects as well as the overall strategic objectives of assigned directorate and/or department.
  • Lead and participate within diverse, multidisciplinary teams on IT system projects in support of mission strategy and INL business development. Fill multiple project roles as needed (e.g., Business Analyst, Customer Relationship Manager, Project Controls, Scheduler) Lead projects in multiple methodologies (agile, waterfall, etc.) Understand what the end goal of the project is by using multiple business analysis methods.
  • Serve as the primary contact with customers and business partners throughout the lifecycle of the project from conceptual initiation through closeout. Collaborate with a wide variety of audiences including senior & executive level management, frontline employees, and specialists.
  • Communicate project status, risks, mitigation plans, and other vital information to key project personnel, stakeholders, and sponsors.
  • May assist with the day-to-day direction, mentoring, oversight, and peer reviews for junior staff members. Effectively manage assigned staff, projects, including project staff, to ensure that timely and cost-effective technical services are performed in accordance with high standards, sound engineering practices, good science, and all applicable orders and directives. May be responsible for personal development of computer system engineers to ensure correct roles and responsibilities for their various assignments.
  • Responsible for preparation of corrective action plans, project budget estimates, project schedules and task baseline agreements for a wide variety of projects that vary in complexity and resource funding ranging from several thousand dollars to several million dollars.
  • Directly partner with customer management teams and leadership in setting strategic short and long-term direction for supported programs.
  • Software development work planning (sprints, epics, etc.)
  • You will report to the Department Manager.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:



  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or Systems Engineering and 5 years of experience in Master's and 2 years of experience. PhD and 2 years of experience.
  • Extensive experience in Software product development.
  • Experience managing and configuring software development management platforms (e.g., Jira, Github).
  • Experience in software product development or software operations for commercial software products.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.



Job Information:



  • The pay range for this position is $77,628.00 min - $159,228.00 max. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
