Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD) staff couple the latest in information system technologies, such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, data science, Artificial Intelligence, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our Intelligence Community, DoD, and civilian customers.

The Modeling and Simulation Computing Department (MSCD) consists of a team dedicated to ground-breaking software solutions and capabilities for government and commercial customer needs.We are looking for an Advanced Software Developer for Modeling and Simulation Computing (Engineering Specialist - Systems and Modeling and Simulation Engineer). We enable detailed and complex modeling, analysis, optimization, and visualization of satellite orbits, system architectures, and engineering trade-spaces to provide customer decision support for the future of space.

Work Model

  • This is a full-time position based in Colorado Springs, or CO, or El Segundo, CA, offering a hybrid work model that combines 3 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leverage specialized technical expertise to deliver software solutions that grow and sustain the sub-division's modeling, simulation, and analysis capabilities in teams with multi-disciplinary technical leaders, analysis leaders, Aerospace Program Office personnel, and external customers to define and address customer needs.

  • Independently apply and advance modern software development techniques and best practices to perform modeling and simulation tool development in sub-division focus areas.

  • Serve as a key point of contact for technologies, techniques, programs and/or activities for major technical efforts within the department and subdivision.

  • Lead larger multi-disciplinary or cross-department teams of peers or more junior staff in conducting specialized development tasks as part of larger project efforts.

  • Maintain continuous tasking and identify areas of improvement in department tools and capabilities.

  • Engage with software end users and customers to refine capability requirements.

  • Routinely communicate project progress, including recommended design solutions to technical leads, management, and customers.

  • Mature technical expertise in the department through mentoring team members and directing workflow development.

  • Proactively performs tasks and network across departments with autonomy.

  • Travel as necessary to support customer efforts.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with an emphasis in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field

  • 6+ years of related and progressive experience.

  • Proven ability to self-manage multiple tasks independently and as part of a team.

  • Experience in technical writing and technical presentation.

  • Proven ability to take initiative and successfully complete tasks, lead complex technical projects, and collaborate effectively.

  • Significant contribution to a substantial technical analytical or development project through its successful completion, using parallel processing techniques or optimizing software for high performance computing resources.

  • Proficiency in one of the following programming languages: Python, C/C++, Java, MATLAB, or other object-oriented language.

  • Experience in modern software development, integration, and testing practices.

  • Familiarity with development on Windows and Linux platforms.

  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree in STEM or other STEM-related field

  • Significant experience in analysis workflow automation, rapid prototyping, high performance computing, cloud computing, and/or containerization.

  • Experience in space-related modeling, simulation, and analysis.

  • Experience in advanced mathematical, engineering, or physics topics.

  • Experience in modern software architecture design.

  • Experience interfacing with program office personnel and government customers.

  • Advanced proficiency in one of the department's core programming languages: Python, C/C++.

  • Demonstrated technical and team leadership.

  • Extensive experience in modern software development, integration, and testing practices on large-scale software projects.

  • Current TS/SCI security clearance.

We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
