Job Summary

Responsible for the development, standardization and coordination of programs to advance nursing practice, quality for nursing services and research across assigned clinical nursing programs.
Responsible for the efficient and purposeful integration of services with other areas and emerging delivery systems and for participating in policy and procedure development and implementation.
Accountable for ensuring overall coordination with all Regulatory Compliance and associated programs and initiatives and oversees continuous regulatory readiness for the nursing department at GMMC. Supports and interprets the mission/values, philosophy, goals and objectives of the organization and the Department of Nursing; participates in the annual goal setting for Nursing to attain and deliver on the strategic plan for the system and campus specific Nursing department. Participates in the identification of resources both material and personnel needed to implement and maintain clinical service programs. Assists service leadership (DON) in the development, maintenance and evaluation of operations systems within the clinical service and other departments as directed by the Chief Nursing Officer. Supports and assists in facilitation of the Nursing Council structures for nursing services and provides clinical and management support to the Chief Nursing Officer. Assumes responsibility for coordination of all aspects of the ANCC Magnet Recognition application process, interim monitoring reporting and re-application process.

Essential Functions

  • Accountable for nursing quality program development. Practices and deploys evidence-based decision making.

  • Assists service leadership with the development, maintenance, and evaluation of the formal and informal communication systems within the clinical service and between other departments. Serves as leader to coordinate and educate nursing leadership and staff regarding integration of the magnet standards, requirements for designation, performance of periodic gap analyses, and strategic planning to meet requirements and deadlines. Collects evidence from all clinical settings, data resources, and HR for areas involved in application. Maintains master manual and shared electronic files of evidence. Prepares submission documents and any interim performance reports for designation/redesignation.

  • Proposes and sets direction to ensure department nursing quality outcomes in meeting agreed upon system targets. Ensures cultural focus on quality outcomes. Accountable for system design and review of nursing quality plan. Personally participates, uses and fosters use of the Models for Improvement. Values, encourages and listens to suggestions from the direct care nurses. Accountable for key work process design and creation of work culture that results in high reliability.

  • Participates in activities for maintaining a practice environment that promotes continuous quality improvement.

  • Responsible to ensure tracking and, where indicated, development of coordinated plans to improve performance on the NDNQI nurse sensitive indicators.

  • Accountable for developing the use among staff of various improvement methodologies in assigned work groups to include FMEA, Appreciative Inquiry, PDSA, and the evidence-based practice model.

  • Collaborates with the system Quality Dept. and Risk management to support projects and programs that include nursing, and the interdisciplinary team as needed. Collaborates with nursing leadership in facilitation of meetings of the magnet teams and related activities and adheres to designated timelines. Prepares periodic reports to nursing leadership on progress toward designation/re designation. Serves as liaison with magnet office, consultants, and editors/reviewers to keep open communication and feedback to clarify issues and any changes in requirements. Networks with other facilities on the magnet journey.

  • Directs the development, implementation and monitoring of compliance of clinical care standards of nursing practice. Recommends resources and infrastructure to support same.

  • Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of the nursing care delivery system within nursing practice settings.

  • Coordinates the campus regulatory performance improvement program with system resources.

  • Participates in the ongoing development and maintenance of the Career Advancement Program (CARE) and is a permanent CARE Board of Review member.

  • Serves as administrative advisor for the Prisma Health Professional practice council in collaboration with the campus CNO by mentoring and coaching staff nurse chairs; ensures agendas are aligned with goals and that the council is serving to increase accountability and autonomy for nursing practice. Facilitates development of educational materials for leadership and core group of magnet champions. Facilitates agenda development and maintenance of the Council's Share Point site.

  • Accountable for the active practice of service excellence standards in the nursing department to anticipate and meet patient needs. Collaborates with system resources to communicate patient experience results to all department members and establishes or supports programs to drive improvements to meet targeted goals. Ensures that appropriate systems are in place to provide safe, efficient, and patient focused service to all internal and external customers.

  • Assists in the coordination of research activities, the research process and the application of research findings through application of the evidence-based practice model.

  • Facilitates/Supports the implementation of clinical service goals for research.

  • Supports an environment for inquiry.

  • Assists in determining resources needed to support research.

  • Represents the nursing enterprise for Prisma Health in relevant professional organizations.

  • Encourages and mentors' staff to submit for posters, podium presentations and publication and does so personally as well.

  • Serves as a matrix supervisor for the clinical nurse educator and clinical practice specialist role at Prisma Health to set priorities and assure alignment for staff development programs that support the goals of the service and continued development of clinical expertise beyond orientation.

  • Participates in the identification of overall service staff development and educational needs and assists in the planning and implementation of activities to meet these needs.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of team members that may include final budget authority, hire/termination authority, performance appraisal responsibility and disciplinary authority. Job will be considered a member of management staff at Prisma Health or affiliate and will have direct reports.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Master's degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Public Health or a related field of study.

  • Experience - Five (5) acute care nursing experience. Magnet experience preferred
