Focus: The Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for coordinating and conducting field assessments of environmental, health, and safety issues to ensure all operational activities are consistent with the needs of the division/location and requirements of governmental regulatory agencies. This role will perform complex assignments often requiring development of unique solutions to environmental, health and safety problems due to the variables involved. The Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist may assume responsibility for a specific environmental, health or safety concern of limited and structured scope as well as participate in more comprehensive programs. This role will also provide technical Environmental, Health & Safety coaching and expertise to the broader organization.
Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist Essential Job Functions:
- Working within corporate/division strategies and policy frameworks, designs, proposes and implements health, safety, process safety and environmental guidelines and procedures within broad principles and policies set by the organization to meet EHS requirements supporting short and long-term business needs and consistent with the EHS Risk of the location.
- Provides technical EHS expertise and coaching to facilitate broad accountability of the EHS process.
- Prepares company and governmental reports/policies in accordance with organizational requirements.
- Maintains knowledge of laws and regulations affecting the organization's operations and assures compliance with division and government health, safety and environmental standards.
- Participates in plant audits and interfaces with internal and external auditors and regulatory and government agency personnel.
- Participates in RCA's, developing corrective measures and driving actions to completion and sustainment.
- Develops safe standard work practices with line personnel and monitors conformance through safety and housekeeping inspections. Collaborates with employees and supervisors to identify and correct potential environmental, safety, security and health hazards.
Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist Minimum Requirements:
- Must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent with minimum of 5 years related Environmental, Health & Safety experience in manufacturing environment; OR
- Bachelor's Degree* (Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental or related discipline strongly preferred) with minimum of 3 years of related Environmental, Health & Safety experience in manufacturing environment.
- Prior chemical/refinery industry experience preferred.
- US regulatory/compliance knowledge; Knowledge of behavior-based safety, OSHA and PSM regulations preferred.
- Must be able to communication effectively at all levels of the organization, verbally and in writing, as well as gain trust and buy-in.
- Must be able to develop and effectively deliver verbal presentations and conduct safety related training.
- Prior Olin experience in a relevant position preferred.
- Must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) and possess a valid US Driver's license.
