Job Summary:



The Clinical Laboratory Animal Veterinary Intern provides veterinary care for the CU Denver | Anschutz animal care and use program through the Office of Laboratory Animal Resources. The Office of Laboratory Animal Resources (OLAR) is the administrative arm of the CU Denver animal care and use program with specific responsibility for regulatory requirements, veterinary oversight of animal care, provision for training needs in appropriate animal care and use, IACUC support, and the organizational point of contact for extra-mural animal related interactions (AAALAC, USDA, OLAW, public, etc.). The individual serving in this position assists in providing veterinary care and assuring regulatory compliance for the use of animals in biomedical research at CU Denver | Anschutz.

Key Responsibilities:

The Veterinary Intern's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Provides veterinary care to a variety of research species initially under supervision and then autonomously with a senior clinical veterinarian always available for consult.
  • Assists with implementation and oversight of animal care programs.
  • Performs mentored research projects.
  • Assists in research and animal care staff training.
  • Provides consultation and instruction to investigators and staff in animal care and use.
  • May lead and train staff performing related work.
  • Assists in reviewing animal research proposals.
  • Participates in IACUC meetings and inspections.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned



Work Location:



Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire



  • D.V.M. (or equivalent) from an AVMA - Accredited School of Veterinary Medicine.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Previous training and/or experience in laboratory animal medicine.
  • Previous training and/or experience performing research.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
  • Knowledge of animal husbandry requirements, methods, and techniques.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in the area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of animal surgical techniques.
  • * Ability to assess and treat medical conditions in a wide variety of animals.
  • Ability to maintain safety and infection control standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborations and working relationships with a variety of people, internal and external to the department and institution.
  • Leadership skills for effective planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation.
  • Ability to work effectively under general direction or guidelines with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary for this position has been established as

HIRING RANGE:

$55,000 - $62,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
