Summary:

The Director of Strategy and Operations will provide Project Management expertise and strategic leadership of key Initiatives within the Clinical Affairs Functional Units, including Clinical Development, Clinical Development Operations, Pharmacovigilance, HEOR, Collaborative and Late Stage Research, and Scientific Communications. This position will provide direction, oversight and coordination of complex activities within Clinical Affairs portfolio(s) and functions including budget and strategic resource management support to the SVP, Clinical Affairs


Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by an individual assigned to this job. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Serve as key partner to the SVP Clinical Affairs by leading the development of key tactical and operational plans to meet corporate and department goals

2. Partner with Functional Heads and provide project management and operational cross functional expertise to give clear direction across functions and enable respective teams to function efficiently including:

a) Represent SVP as deputy for specific financial and operational issues and/or as meeting delegate
b) Develop and drive the strategic planning process across portfolios including coordination of communications across Clinical Affairs and cross-functional teams.
c) Develop and manage leadership team agendas and provide direction on actions required to enable decision making and execution of these decisions.
d) Provide framework or scorecard for Clinical Affairs teams to track a monthly update and summary of actions on key initiatives and deliverables across the portfolios
e) Assist the SVP with developing annual strategic objectives and coordinate team planning and update meetings
f) Develop and execute Launch Readiness Plans and coordinate complex cross-functional launch initiates as directed by the Functional Head

3. Partner with SVP/Functional Heads and Finance to plan and manage budgets, including:
a) Summary of Clinical Affairs spend changes and assumptions to clearly communicate budget forecasted versus actual and actions or decisions required with defined accountabilities for budget owners
b) Assumptions and relevant documentation required to provide rationale and appropriate level of detail from all budget owners to assess implications and decisions required on a monthly basis
c) Strategic Plan and cross-functional budget alignment across portfolios

4. Drive innovation and efficiencies that contribute to further streamlining the way teams work within Clinical Affairs and cross-functionally

5. Support Ad hoc projects based on capacity and priority

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position may have supervisory responsibility.

Interaction:

The position works most closely with Clinical Development, Clinical Development Operations, Pharmacovigilance, Collaborative and Late Stage Research, HEOR and Scientific Communications teams, as well as Regulatory, Program Management, Medical Affairs, Biometrics, Quality, Market Access, Marketing and Finance colleagues, consultants and vendors to assure timely and effective strategic oversight of Clinical Affairs operations.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

* Bachelor Degree is required (preference for Sciences), advanced degree preferred (MS, MPA, MPH, MBA, MD, PharmD)
* Project management certification preferred
* 5+ years of project management experience in pharmaceutical industry, preferably within Clinical teams
* Advanced experience in working with project management and reporting systems

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, move between spaces, reach with hands and arms and stoop. Close vision and the need to focus on computer screen, use of hands, fingers and wrist to type on keyboard and manipulate mouse.
