The Pre-Press Assistant plays an important role in supporting operations by ensuring an advanced supply of refurbished or new Varnish Application Rolls (VA Rolls) and Back up Rolls (BUR's) are ready and available for the printing presses and laminators. This position reviews the work orders list, determines refurbishing specifications and then programs a horizontal lathe accordingly to trim and/or resurface VA / BUR rolls as needed. Depending on specific work demands, this role also supports other functions as needed, such as Utility and Plant Sanitation. This is an individual contributor role and does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Takes full-cycle responsibility for planning ahead in resurfacing, ordering new or retiring VA and BUR
rolls to ensure adequate supplies are ready and in-stock to support operations.
2. Using specifically developed knowledge, examines and inspects each used VA / BUR roll to
determine the best approach to resurface & trim or if specific rolls need to be retired and replaced.
3. Accurately measures the rolls, either manual or using a digital caliper, and then calculates
parameters needed to efficiently resurface while maximizing the lifespan of each unique roll.
4. Following calculations, enters the measurement values into a horizontal CNC roll-grinding lathe to
correspond with the resurfacing requirements of each specific roll.
5. Oversees and executes a storage and organization system for previously used VA/BUR rolls that
provides easy location and re-use in future work orders.
6. Plans their activities and daily work priorities to ensure rolls are refurbished and staged in advance
to prevent the work stoppage of any press or laminator.
7. Responds and takes immediate corrective actions if either VA or BUR rolls are identified as causing
printing or lamination issues on customer orders.
8. Monitors and cleans lathe rubber dust collector as needed, following specified disposal guidelines.
9. Supports internal departments (Utility, Plant Sanitation, etc.) as work demands allow, not limited to:
* Understanding and monitoring the solvent recovery still, initiating the recovery and
discharge processes to optimize the solvent recovery process.
* Performing PM's (Preventative Maintenance) on parts washer system.
* Conducts AIB audit requirements by conducting facility, perimeter, door locking and pest
management checks and inspections.
10. Supports housekeeping and 5S efforts by effectively maintaining the work area, tools and
equipment in a shared service environment.
11. Commits to and demonstrates a continuous improvement mindset and demeanor aimed towards
advancing and enhancing results in assigned work area and across the organization.

POSITION SCOPE:
Primarily, this position works independently without direct supervision, utilizing independent judgement in
deciding how to best refurbish each unique VA or BUR roll and in setting daily priorities in supporting
operational commitments. Has some decision-making latitude in this respect while following general
established guidelines and procedures.
Direction Received: Receives general directional instruction via established guidelines and protocols but
provides some independent judgement and latitude in the day-to-day prioritization and execution of
positional job duties.
Responsibilities for Direction of Others: This is an individual contributor role and is not responsible for the
direction of others.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Pre Press Assistant reports to the Pre Press Manager and has no direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma/GED with equivalent experience required.

Experience: Direct experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment preferred.

Must be flexible- willing and able to work any shift as needed, as well as some weekends & holidays.
Experience working as an individual contributor with infrequent direct supervision preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. Must be self-motivated with a demonstrated sense of achieving results.
2. Ability to read and interpret a tape measure, making calculations involving fractions and/or decimals.
3. Proficiency with basic math and computer skills, including entering parameters into a CNC lathe.
4. Ability to read and comprehend basic work instructions.
5. Ability to work well under pressure with developed prioritization and time management skills.
6. Positive attitude and ability to easily adapt to varying work challenges
7. Detail -oriented and very conscientious of data and work accuracy.
8. Ability to learn specific industry manufacturing technologies and the ability to apply that
understanding to make effective analyses and recommendations as applicable to the role.
9. Has the ability to work on several minor projects at the same time.
10. Has a questioning attitude and the ability to utilize resources and attend to details.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & TRAVEL:
Physical Demands: The associate will be exposed to the manufacturing environment where hazards and
requirements may include but are not limited to use of Personal Protective Equipment, industrial equipment
and machines, ladders, noise above 80 dB, handling objects weighing up to 50 lb., solvent fumes, and
inks. 100% of associates time will be spent in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Travel Requirements: Minimal. May be required for occasional training or off-site support.

WORK CONDITIONS:
The majority of tasks will be performed in an industrial environment while working with or around a horizontal
CNC roll-grinding lathe. The Pre Press Assistant will be required to work on the plant floor, make long walks
to review existing conditions, pre-stage VA / BUR rolls, etc. Position is typically a Monday-Friday day position,
except for working in plants or supporting projects or production efforts, which may result in longer hours for
periods of time.
