PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the direction of a Supervisor - Automation Control Engineer, performs both water treatment plant instrumentation maintenance and relief operations as required. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Inspects, calibrates, repairs, installs, and performs corrective and preventative maintenance on instrumentation and control systems at all water treatment and distribution sites. 2. Maintains detailed records of instrument installations, calibrations, as-builts, and other pertinent data regarding control systems. 3. Interprets, marks up, and develops electrical schematics. 4. Trains other personnel regarding instrumentation activities. 5. Coordinates with Operations and all necessary personnel so that work is performed in a safe manner, maintaining regulatory compliance, and meeting customer demands. 6. Acquires training and certification as deemed necessary by management. 7. Acts as a HazMat Specialist and HazMat team member. 9. Controls surface and ground raw water pump stations operation through computer interfaces as needed to meet plant demands and comply with water quality standards. 10. Controls distribution system operation through computer interfaces and control panels. Adjusts plant outputs, booster pumps, and distribution wells to provide appropriate water quality and quantity. 11. Operates standby diesel-powered equipment during emergency conditions. 12. Records various readings and performs lab tests as assigned. 13. May make minor repairs to machinery and equipment. Maintain control room in an orderly condition. 14. Complies with all company policies, procedures, safety rules, and governmental regulations. 15. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by management. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Must meet one of the following requirements: Military mechanical training in related field can be used in lieu of educational requirements on a year for year basis. Licensing/Certification: * Must have a minimum of a Missouri Department of Natural Resources Public Drinking Water Treatment Operator Certificate Level D and a Distribution System Operator Certification Level DS-I or ability to obtain within six months of employment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Demonstrate skills in the maintenance of electrical equipment, instrumentation, and process control systems. Physical Requirements: Must be able to visually differentiate between color-coded electrical and electronic equipment associated with this job. Physical requirements include: sitting, standing, grasping, bending, squatting, reaching, balancing, twisting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift 55 lbs. of weight and work at heights. Must be able to meet the requirements to fulfill the role of HazMat Specialist. Must be able to meet respirator fitness testing and Hazardous Material physical requirements. Must be able to work within the rated capacity of the Utility's aerial lifts, ladders, fall restraint devices, and/or other job-related equipment. Working Conditions: As an Operator, work is typically in a temperature-controlled room, but occasionally requires going outside to inspect the plant, filters, and basins. Within the plant there will be exposure to considerable noise, heat, cold, rotating equipment, as well as dangerous chemicals. Various shifts include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. As an Instrument Technician, work will be inside and outside of industrial facilities, in all kinds of weather, at heights, and in confined spaces with exposure to low and high voltages, heat, noise, and dangerous chemicals. Safety Sensitive Position: A safety-sensitive position involves the performance of duties which may have a direct and immediate impact on the safety of the public and other public employees. This is a safety sensitive position. Miscellaneous Requirements: * Required to wear uniform clothing provided by City Utilities. Management retains the right to require replacement due to wear or staining. TESTING: Full/Part Time
