Description

Position Summary:

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons is accepting applications for an Associate Research Scientist. The individual will be responsible for performing basic and translational research in the area of cardiovascular medicine. The individual will work alongside the principal investigator in developing and performing scientific protocol, organizing and discussing results, as well as submitting scientific manuscripts and grants. The position involves conducting independent research, collaborating on multidisciplinary projects, and contributing to the development of innovative therapeutic strategies.

Responsibilities:




  • Design and execute experimental studies in cardiovascular medicine, focusing on structural heart disease, myocardial dysfunction, and biomaterial interactions.
  • Conduct in vivo experiments with genetically modified murine models
  • Analyze and interpret data, ensuring the rigor and reproducibility of research findings.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including clinicians, engineers, and biologists, to develop and refine research projects.
  • Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, grant applications, and progress reports.
  • Supervise and mentor junior researchers, including postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, surgical residents, and technicians.
  • Present research findings at internal meetings, national and international conferences, and in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of experimental procedures and data analysis.
  • Stay current with advancements in cardiovascular research, incorporating new techniques and knowledge into ongoing projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety protocols in the laboratory.Assist in the development and optimization of in vivo and in vitro models for cardiovascular research.
  • Additional responsibilities include participation in the academic and research missions of the University, the Department of Surgery.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirments:



  • MD or PhD


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in cardiovascular physiology, small and large animal models, cell and molecular biology.
