JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Office of Physical Plant (OPP) is seeking applicants for a Skilled Trades Supervisor to work at our Abington Campus. This position will lead, supervise, and direct staff and technical service personnel to deliver responsive, quality, and cost-effective custodial services.The Skilled Trades Supervisor must also effectively utilize and steward human, financial, and material resources and interact as well as coordinate with internal and external departments to accomplish mutual goals and to further OPP's interest to support the mission of the University.

Skilled Trades Supervisors hire, train, evaluate, develop, and supervise skilled trades personnel. Supervisory responsibilities include prioritizing and scheduling work assignments; establishing work sequence; coordinating utility shutdowns; planning and overseeing equipment maintenance and repair; coordinating with outside vendors, contractors, subcontractors; providing technical expertise and consultation; participating in government agency inspections; administering budgets; monitoring inventories; adhering to and enforcing regulatory, policy, and bargaining unit requirements.

  • Hire, train, evaluate, develop, and supervise skilled trades personnel

  • Prioritize, schedule and assign work crews and equipment; arrange for equipment repair and maintenance

  • Establish work sequence including trades coordination and utility shutdowns; monitor deadlines

  • Conduct site visits; ensure regulation and job specification compliance; discuss, resolve, refer, and report issues

  • Coordinate with customers, outside vendors, contractors, and subcontracted workforce; provide informal estimates for services

  • Provide technical expertise/consultation; confer and collaborate with engineers, designers, architects, planners, estimators, etc.; analyze problems and recommend solutions

  • Coordinate and participate in government agency inspections

  • Administer budgets and monitor inventory; identify cost containment measures; research, recommend, and order equipment/materials

  • Communicate, enforce, and make recommendations for work rules, policies, and procedures

  • Ensure a safe work environment; participate in emergency planning and response; investigate accidents and prepare reports

  • Follow Collective Bargaining Agreement; participate in grievance procedures, hearings, and arbitrations

This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of day-to-day maintenance operations, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, discipline, etc., for employees on the 1st shift in university facilities across Abington Campus.

This position will typically work 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Education and Experience:

This position requires an associate's degreeor higher plus four (4)years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Background Checks:

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$68,200.00 - $102,300.00
