Medical Science Liaison (MSL) - Oncology

Geography: Position Based: Georgia (Atlanta, Columbus, Athens), Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee (Memphis)

Description:

Myriad Genetics is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Medical Science Liaison (MSL) within the Oncology Business Unit. The MSL position is a field-based scientific and clinical expert role. We are currently looking for an individual to strategically support our oncology portfolio of hereditary testing, companion diagnostics, and all current and future pan-omic testing. MSLs play a pivotal role in communicating Myriad's scientific advancements to healthcare professionals. The candidate must possess a unique blend of strong business acumen, market awareness, and clinical expertise, to serve as a vital conduit of information and collaboration with cross-functional internal stakeholders. The successful candidate will join Myriad's Medical Affairs team and will report to the Oncology MSL Manager who reports to the Oncology Medical Affairs Vice President.

Responsibilities:

Maintain MSL Expertise through:



  • Demonstrating clinical expertise of Myriad's oncology portfolio products, along with staying current on research in oncology-related topics that impact our portfolio and business strategy.
  • Attending scientific conferences to represent Myriad, gather insights and meet initiatives of the business unit.
  • Establishing, building and maintaining relationships with local, regional and national KOLs.
  • Being an active member of the Myriad Medical Affairs community through best practice sharing.
  • Continually advances and grows with market issues, trends, monitors the competitive landscape, and product knowledge specific to key therapeutic areas.



Serves as a Medical/Scientific resource to Clinicians by:



  • Answering medical questions, addressing other clinically related medical information issues, assisting in understanding and utilizing consistent processes for assessing patients' risk for genetic and genomic (multi-omic) testing, explain test results, and discuss relevant guidelines associated with treatment and medical management options.
  • Providing ongoing, up-to-date education (via clinical/scientific presentations) to customers thereby increasing awareness of, and access to, genetic and pan-omic tests for appropriate patients.
  • Delivering clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare practitioners.
  • Supporting customer research requests through the appropriate channels



Supports Oncology business unit initiatives and demonstrates business acumen through*:



  • Identifying and prioritizing opportunities for customer engagement, growth, and education.
  • Aiding marketing and training team on clinical education or claims projects.
  • Assisting in Speaker Trainings and Thought Leader (KOL) meetings as it relates to the area of focus.
  • Evaluating effective MSL interventions and initiatives to achieve company goals.
  • Fully supporting and participating in the implementation of business unit initiatives.



*Certain MSL positions may not be involved with direct sales support. IF role of MSL is tied to a sales team additional responsibilities to include:




  • Collaborating with sales to identify opportunities for collaboration in supporting/educating customers and KOL engagements.
  • Educating sales team on current clinical practice, guideline advancements, and aiding in sales training to elevate their skillset.
  • Attending sales meetings and partnering with area sales manager and marketing to facilitate and/or present information, as needed.



Qualifications:



  • Advanced degree required: (i.e., APP, PA, NP, MS, PharmD,) in a relevant scientific and clinical discipline. Maintain current board certifications and/or licenses, preferred, while actively pursuing continuous education.
  • Ideally, possess a minimum of three years of post-graduate clinical experience.
  • Demonstrate advanced training and/or experience in clinical oncology. Familiarity with general oncologic pharmacology is also preferred.
  • Understand genetics/genomics, genetic testing, and current service delivery models.
  • Experience facilitating research discussions with KOLs and effectively communicating research results or clinical studies to a variety of audiences.
  • Preference for candidates with established relationships with oncology thought leaders.
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Willing and able to travel 2-3 days per week, occasional weekends for conferences/ meetings. Travel depends on specific MSL role.
  • Effectively manage travel and maintain expenses within appropriate budget.


Significant Work Activities:



  • Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (> 2 consecutive hours in an 8-hour day)
  • Keyboard use (greater or equal to 50% of the workday)
  • Driving a personal vehicle / rental car and flying across the U.S.
  • Travel: Yes, 20-30% and home office work, with up to 80% of time spent with customers and key opinion key interactions. Most travel is within a defined geographic region, but additional travel may be required for occasional coverage assistance, conferences, or corporate meetings. Travel depends on specific MSL role.
