Immunology/Cell Biology Staff Scientist Work Location: Fort Detrick, MD Eagle Health is seeking an Immunology/Cell Biology Staff Scientist to join our team in Fort Detrick, MD. Core Duties:
- Conduct basic and applied research on current and emerging threats at BSL-2, BSL-3 and BSL-4 levels in support of the BD and infectious disease program
- Provide expertise generating 3D printed tissues, iPSC derived cell types and organoids and subsequent phenotypic characterization using a range of cell biological and/or immunological assessments. These studies in turn will support prophylactic and therapeutic product development against biothreat agents
- Provide laboratory support with laboratory experiments in Centers for Disease Control (CDC) registered laboratories and thus must hold and maintain Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP) status, in accordance with (IAW) the provisions in this contract and applicable regulations
- Develop and execute research studies designed to assess cell biological and immunological response to infectious agents as well as MCM in primary cells, 3D printed tissues, iPSC derived cell types and organoids
- Develop and utilize methods to characterize host and viral cell populations. These studies will include both in vitro (e.g., immunofluorescence, plaque assays, ELISA) and in vivo (small animal) models of disease
- Provide Immunology/cell biology expertise and support to characterize the host responses to antimicrobial compounds using RT-PCR, reporter assay, and Meso scale Discovery technologies to quantitate cytokines and chemokines
- Prepare protocols, standard operating procedures, and other documentation necessary to conduct assigned experiments
- Responsible for assessing and maintaining laboratory supplies in assigned laboratories, assess and ensure that supplies are ordered or will be ordered using the current General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS) ordering system, and maintain assigned laboratory space in compliance with all applicable regulations
- Communicate experimental data, laboratory, or other work-related issues to the appropriate point of contact (POC)
- Communicate with vendors for technical support and troubleshooting laboratory equipment with assigned space
- Present research findings at least one scientific conference per year, if required, which may require CONUS and/or OCONUS travel, and present results in written and oral format publicly and internally
- Prepare and provide TPOC a Scientific Research Technical progress report no later than (NLT) the last day of each month
- Present research findings/presentations at monthly lab meetings and attend scientific discussion weekly meetings
- In collaboration with USAMRIID leadership, author or coauthor research proposals, solicitations, and other vehicles to solicit financial support to meet USAMRIID mission/portfolio objectives, to include assisting to answer service calls from government sponsors (e.g., Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA))
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, standard operating procedures, and manuscripts relating to their research efforts and present results in written and oral format publicly and internally as requested
- BPRP enrollment is required and will be held and maintained IAW the provisions in this contract and all applicable regulations
