BASIC PURPOSE

The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for the safety, care, and well-being of the children during Summer Camp. The Summer Camp Counselor will provide the children with a safe environment to develop social skills, decision-making, and leadership skills with the intention of building self-confidence. The position of Summer Camp Counselor will receive direction from the Summer Camp Leads and the Arts, Education & Camp Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  1. Provide great customer service to the community ensuring that all customers, clients, and members are given prompt and courteous service.
  2. Follow all Child Safety policies and procedures.
  3. Relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages.
  4. Awareness of children's individual needs.
  5. Always use appropriate positive discipline and practice vigilant supervision.
  6. Handle security and crisis situations calmly.
  7. Maintain knowledge of all current programming.
  8. Responsible for maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the work and play areas.
  9. Adhere to The Salvation Army Kroc Center policies and procedures.
  10. Follow and comply with all safety rules and regulations.
  11. Ensure the facility remains secure and report any security concerns to a supervisor.
  12. Lead structured activities that support character development.
  13. Responsible for adhering to a structured activity schedule.
  14. Complete required training.
  15. Maintain confidentiality.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS



  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  3. Minimum of 6 months successful experience working with children preferred.
  4. Ability to empathize, communicate, and work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  5. Thrive in a team environment with emphasis on partnership and collaboration.
  6. Demonstrate positive interactions with co-workers, clients, and members.
  7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining poise and professionalism.
  8. Assess challenging situations and respond appropriately.



    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS



    1. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



    1. Physical mobility in bending and lifting up to 30 lbs.
    2. Use of auditory and visual senses with children and staff.
    3. Ability to verbally communicate with children and staff.
    4. Capable of getting into the swimming pool with campers.
