Geosyntec Consultants has an immediately available career opportunity for an Assistant Controller to join our Corporate Accounting Team in Boca Raton, Florida. This position works under the direction of the Controller. This position offers the option of either working full-time in our Boca Raton, Florida office or a hybrid work from home schedule after training. At the company's discretion, a remote work option may be available from south Florida locations. Some of the key components of this position are:

    Managing, organizing and directing the general ledger team within the Accounting, Finance and Tax department including general ledger, receivables, month-end closing, financial reporting, analysis, and cash management.
  • Maintaining and developing procedures, systems and processes to ensure that transactions affecting the Company's financial position and results of operations are recorded completely accurately, and on a timely basis.
  • Directing the month-end closing process and assisting with the preparation of financial statements and various management reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance an accounting system which will permit accurate and timely measurement of the financial condition of the company and the profitability of its operations;
  • Manage the timely completion of the month-end closing process and assist with the preparation of monthly financial reports;
  • Ensure that the Company's accounting policies and procedures are followed;
  • Recommend changes to processes and procedures in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting function;
  • Ensure that accounts are analyzed and reconciled on a periodic basis. Maintain workpapers and documentation to support account balances and transactions. Investigate and resolve differences, record adjusting entries as necessary;
  • Design, implement and document new accounting policies and procedures as well as internal accounting controls;
  • Supervise, organize, and direct the activities of the general accounting and accounts payable staff;
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to personnel with a view toward their personal and professional development;
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend salary adjustments;
  • Provide advice and counsel to the Controller as requested and perform any special assignments when directed; and
  • Perform all other related duties and responsibilities that may arise from time-to-time.


Education and Licensure

  • A Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting. (required)
  • Active CPA certification. (required)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least eight (8) years or more of progressively responsible experience in finance and accounting with demonstrated leadership and management skills or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience in public accounting and/or a professional services firm environment is highly desirable. Knowledge of GAAP and general finance and accounting procedures as well as project accounting and financial statement preparation and analysis. (required)
  • Experience managing accounting staff including conducting performance evaluations. (required)
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage individual workload and workload of departmental staff. (required)
  • Experience utilizing a fully integrated enterprise accounting software application in a multi-company, multi-currency environment. (required)
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex accounting/finance technical documents and regulations, instructions, correspondence, memos and financial statements. (required)
  • Ability to write complex correspondence and memos. (required)
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to senior branch executives, Project Managers, and other internal clients. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
