It is a skilled position responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of large construction equipment including but not limited to Loaders, Back Hoes, Track Hoes, Haul Trucks and Water Trucks. This position is also responsible for various labor tasks such as lubricating, shoveling, sweeping, steam cleaning, painting, tire maintenance, providing mechanical assistance, and lifting, pushing, pulling, and raking objects. Work will be carried out according to the Foreman's instructions, with minimal supervision unless handling more complex tasks. Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and assign tasks based on project priorities and plans.
- Develop and maintain work schedules, monitor crew attendance and performance.
- Delegate daily responsibilities and provide clear directions to the team.
- Supervise, Train, and Mentor crew members to ensure high performance.
- Ensure adequate manpower and resources are available for project success.
- Enforce safety protocols and quality standards.
- Oversee the proper use of machinery and equipment.
- Identify and resolve issues as they arise to avoid project delays.
- Communicate progress and challenges to managers and engineers.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Proven experience as a construction foreman with at least three years performing key responsibilities in heavy civil construction.
- In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment, and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) guidelines.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and blueprints.
- Certification/License:
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a motor vehicle report that is in good standing, meeting the Company's use of company vehicle criteria.
- Additional Skills:
- Strong attention to safety and adherence to protocols.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate and report effectively to managers and stakeholders.
- Aptitude in math for measurements, calculations, and materials estimation.
Physical Requirements:
- Climbing: Must have the physical capability to safely climb into and out of equipment that is greater than 10 feet off the ground on uneven terrain multiple times daily.
- Heights: Ability to climb and work safely at heights exceeding 10 feet.
- Balance: Including standing and walking on extremely slick and uneven surfaces while carrying.
- Vision: 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions.
- Hearing: Corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions.
- Awkward positions: Getting to and from both sitting and kneeling on the ground.
- Heavy lifting: Occasionally lift awkward parts and equipment up to 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders, and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Conditions: Work is performed outdoors in a heavy civil construction environment with exposure to uneven, rocky terrain, dust, dirt, and varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
Work Environment: This position is primarily outdoors, requiring work in various weather conditions on active and often rugged construction sites. The Heavy Civil Foreman must adapt to changing environmental factors while effectively managing crews and project operations. Physical stamina is required, as the role involves standing, climbing, and bending for extended periods.
