Position Highlights |
The Tribal Engagement Liaison will support and maintain the University of Arizona's tribal engagement efforts. This position will develop and build trust with Native Nations by cultivating relationships, forging partnerships, and increasing awareness of tribal programs and support services offered at the University of Arizona. This position is a key link between the University of Arizona and Native Nations in Arizona and beyond. This role requires occasional overnight travel and the ability to operate a University of Arizona vehicle. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Provides support by informing, advising, and guiding audiences
- Responding to inquiries, drafting correspondence, and following up on action items as directed by the Senior Vice President and/or Executive Director
- Address inquiries from tribal constituents of Native Nations as appropriate
- Schedule internal and external meetings
- Plan and organize both on and off campus visits.
- Lead planning and logistic efforts for events, ensuring effective management of budgets, branding, communication, and calendaring.
- Supervise Student Workers
- Serving as a liaison between the University of Arizona and Native Nations acts as a direct link between the University's colleges, divisions, and departments to the NAATE office.
- Facilitate introductions and ensure that the University of Arizona meets preliminary deliverables.
- Regular participation in meetings, conferences, and events on behalf of NAATE is expected, representing the University of Arizona.
- Be an active participant in managing department financials, developing annual budgets, and working with the leadership in long-term strategic planning and goal setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of issues and relations in tribal communities.
- Extensive knowledge of issues faced in higher education.
- Extensive knowledge of practices and procedures associated with building relationships with tribal communities.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential and sensitive information.
- Skill in public speaking and presenting information to executive leaders.
- Ability to operate a vehicle and/or golf cart.
- Ability to travel in-state, nationally, and internationally.
- Knowledge of University of Arizona systems, practices, and policies.
- Strong organizational skills.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
- 3 years of experience working with tribal communities.
- 5 years of administrative support experience in higher education.
- Extensive experience working with Native Nations, Native American communities, students, faculty, staff, and administration.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report |
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.Thesereports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims.
