Process Automation Technology Leader, H&B

Job Summary

The Process Automation Technology Leader (PATL) will be the senior accountable process control leader for a division, business or area, responsible for A&PC strategy. This position is dedicated to Health & Biosciences division (H&B) within IFF company. The H&B PATL will lead Process Control strategy for ~ 30 manufacturing plants located worldwide, allocated to three different business segments: BioActives, Cultures and Health. The PATL will be the primary owner of global Process Control strategy into Health & Biosciences division, following governance of the Process Control Director (Line Mgt) and priorities set by Business & Manufacturing senior Leaders (Dotted line Mgt). The PATL is a decisive Technology Leader role and an influence leader role in which setting effective collaboration with stakeholders of every Operations function is key. The position is allocated to Process Control, Operational Excellence & Capital Organization. The position may be preferably located in EMEA or USA. Flex or HO are possible, however a H&B plant allocation is preferable.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the division/business team of automation and process control resources to improve/optimize manufacturing operations through application of state-of-the-art solutions.

  • Develop and maintain the process control life-cycle strategic plan for all plants within the division/business.

  • Ensure new product and process projects are appropriately supported & have a robust A&PC plan. New product introductions are a key part of many business activities which A&PC must support.

  • Serve as the gatekeeper accountable for process control platform selection for the division/business

  • Serve as the key focal point for the process control network cyber-security policy for the division/business

  • Work within the framework of manufacturing technology and capital engineering to define the investment required for process control solutions for the division/business

  • Act as the division/business focal point for driving implementation of corporate level process control initiatives (e.g., alarm management, management of change, interlock by-passing, special technology application / digitalization, cyber-security)

  • Provide the division/business strategy for automation solutions including target level of automation and application of new/special/advanced applications

  • Provide input to the business on resource needs include number of internal resources, skills and capabilities, and leadership structure for automation and process control

  • Understand the automation and process control needs for each plant and work closely with the plant automation contact or lead to assist with implementation of projects

  • Act as accountable owner for all significant automation and process control technology changes (e.g., platform and automation level for new plants or significant expansions, migration path for control system replacement)

  • Work together with the consolidated automation and process control council to develop and implement central/globally applicable corporate policies, strategies, best practices in the field of process control technology and process automation applications

  • Collaborating on policies for process automation and control related to safety/PSM

  • Setting best practices and most effective technology for automation applications, especially where particular to the business/process technology and signoff required for any exceptions which are related to process safety gap closure.

Job Qualifications:

  • Master's or Engineering degree in Factory Automation and Industrial Computing - or Electrical & Instrumentation engineering

  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing and process control/process automation (Chemical, Biotech, Food or Pharma Industry)

  • 5+ years of experience in capital project management as Project Manager or Technology Lead

  • 5+ years of experience in influencing leadership (you will have dotted line reports in this position)

  • Proven expertise in Process Safety Management

  • Lean Six Sigma Certification is preferred

  • Ability to travel globally 20-50% of the time
