Lab Negative Certifying Scientist Group Lead - Lenexa, KS - Tuesday - Saturday 8:00am-5:00pm

As a Negative Group Lead Certifying Scientist working within the Forensic Toxicology Drug Testing Laboratory, the incumbent is responsible for reviewing and releasing negative drug testing results. This position will be responsible for training and developing the negative certification team. Communicating effectively and working cooperatively with team members to optimize job performance and foster working relationships is required.

Pay Range: $28.94+ per hour

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position works within the Employer Solutions division. The incumbent is generally responsible for:

  • Certifying negative drug testing results according to the Laboratory's Standard Operating Procedure
  • (SOP) Manual.
  • Ensure that all test results reported by the laboratory are accurate and legally defensible.
  • Ensure that all certifying technicians are performing the certification process according to SOP.
  • Schedule and adjust work schedules of certification staff to achieve desired service levels.
  • Help to ensure that all certifying technicians maintain:
  • The ability to describe the standard drug testing procedures from point of collection to negative certification in a court of law.
  • The ability to interact on a limited basis with clients, medical review officers, call center representatives and sales staff in a professional manner to address questions pertaining to the drug testing process.
  • A working knowledge of the accessioning procedures and protocols to ensure proper specimen and chain of custody handling.
  • A working knowledge of the theory and practice of initial tests and specimen validity testing methods used in the laboratory.
  • A thorough understanding of all laboratory quality control practices and procedures.
  • A thorough understanding of the data review process, interpretation of test results and protocols for reporting results.
  • A thorough understanding of all federal, state, and other regulatory requirements as they pertain to applicable aspects of forensic drug testing.
  • The ability to take proper remedial action in response to test systems being out of control limits or detecting aberrant test or quality control results.
  • Interact with laboratory inspectors to demonstrate a detailed working knowledge of the lab SOPS, QC practices, analytical procedures, test theory, reporting procedures, corrective actions and applicable regulations pertaining to drug testing.
  • Provide appropriate feedback to the Supervisor and Responsible Person to assist in maintaining an accurate SOP.
  • Maintain the ability to provide corrective feedback to all certification staff to ensure that the laboratory and applicable regulatory protocols are followed.
  • Function as a technical resource for department personnel in all sections of the laboratory.
  • Comply with all safety and regulatory requirements as defined and applicable.
  • Participate in training of new personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Certifying Scientist Supervisor and Responsible Person.

Qualifications

Education Required:

Bachelor's degree with a major in Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, or Medical Technology.

Work Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years laboratory experience in a Forensic Toxicology Laboratory or equivalent, including two (2) years as a negative certifying scientist preferred

  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Detailed knowledge of laboratory SOPs and testing technologies
  • Detailed knowledge of applicable workplace drug testing Federal and State
  • Training and experience in reviewing and reporting test results,
  • maintenance of chain of custody, and understanding proper remedial action
  • in response to problems that may arise.
  • General systems knowledge and data analysis.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt as needs of the business change
