Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Unit Computing Specialist for the Office for Research. As part of the Office for Research, this position is responsible for the setup, configuration, integration of technologies, and support of laptops, printers, desktop and related equipment (hardware and software) and other similar computational, network and data systems.
The Office for Research's mission is to support the research, scholarship, and creative endeavors of all Rutgers faculty. The Office accomplishes its mission by convening with academic and research leaders, providing integrated, user-focused resources, services, and tools, and partnering with faculty.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides support for ongoing user support projects which entail the identification, implementation, recommendation, and adoption of new technologies.
- Provides support for software applications to more than 300 OfR end users, including diagnosing and resolving application related issues.
- Provides end user support for OfR users, such as ordering, configuring, deploying and maintaining laptops, desktops, tablets, printers and mobile devices including iPhones.
- Uses active directory, desktop configuration management tools and antivirus endpoint consoles to control and distribute configurations and maintain computers.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant work experience that demonstrates competency in computer support.

Certifications/Licenses |
- Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.
|
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Excellent communication skills, time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented environment, and ability to handle stressful situations under pressure.
- Must be capable of moving computers, printers and other computer equipment.
- Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Two years of relevant experience performing user support for laptops, desktops and mobile devices.
- Working experience across multiple hardware and software platforms. Knowledge of university computing environments and helpdesk experience.
- Solid understanding of networking principles, OSI model, and networking tools such as ping, pathping, nslookup, tracert, etc.
- Experience with Intune, KACE, Cisco Secure Endpoint, Active Directory, Group policy, and performing network administration for DHCP, DNS, VLANs and Windows Servers. RedHat Linux and Windows 2022 server administration experience.
- Experience working with Synology devices, NAS, file shares, SharePoint, box administration, Veeam, and server backups.
- Experience performing configuration management with KACE and/or SCCM or similar tool.
- CompTia A+ and Network+ certifications.
