DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will primarily support the System Structures team as the day-to-day company representative on theBallard Bridge Heavy Maintenance Project located in Seattle, WA. However, project responsibilities can vary, driven by BNSF's needs. This project is expected to be fast paced and dynamic.

While not an all-inclusive list, some anticipated categories of tasks include:

  • Manage the development of engineering plans, estimates, and construction.
  • Manage the day-to-day Construction activities in collaboration with a group of on-site consultant support.
  • Provide project planning and scope development support.
  • Provide project management support, including maintaining project managing systems.
  • Support securing construction and environmental permits as well as manage compliance throughout the Project.
  • Identify and coordinate property purchase and utility relocations with other BNSF departments and real estate service providers.
  • Provide surveying support, project administration, inspection and ensure conformance to BNSF's standards and specifications.
  • Implement and manage construction safety processes.
  • Evaluate and manage change orders associated with projects.
  • Support cash flow forecast process with Finance Department.
  • Coordinate internal Signal, Track, Transportation, Telecommunications and Structures design and construction activities to progress the overall project.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with outside agencies relative to communication, progress status, and construction schedule coordination, i.e. FRA, WashDOT, USACE, USCG, etc.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires thorough knowledge of Bridge Engineering/Bridge Construction/Heavy Construction.
  • Must be experienced in working with contractors for construction projects
  • Planning and construction management capabilities are essential.
  • Must have thorough understanding of capital budgeting system and process and also be knowledgeable of track maintenance and operations.
  • Communication skills must be exemplary to allow frequent interfacing with BNSF Transportation, agency, community, political, and customer representatives.
  • Must have strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ten years' experience or more in the above
  • Engineering or Construction Management degree
  • Professional Engineer License

RELOCATION:

  • Relocation package may be offered based on business needs.

TRAVEL:

  • Approximately 10-20%
