- Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles, techniques, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of recent and on-going developments, current literature, and sources of information related to the engineering, development, and construction fields.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to perform a diverse range of journey-level engineering tasks in the design and construction management, of City Capital Improvement Plan projects.
- Ability to prepare, analyze, understand, and interpret engineering studies; engineering plans and specifications, and various regulatory documents and guidelines and determine conformance with applicable laws and standards; research, analyze, and summarize data; perform accurate engineering calculations and cost estimates.
- Ability to Understand, interpret, and apply all pertinent laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures, and standards relevant to work performed.
- Ability to investigate field conditions for project feasibility and/or issues which arise during the construction process.
- Ability to effectively represent the department and the City in meetings with governmental agencies, community groups, and various business, professional, and regulatory organizations and individuals.
- Ability to use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines; Independently organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments.
Experience
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible civil engineering experience.
- Expertise in project management within local government, particularly in parks and facilities development with strong skills in budgeting and procurement is desirable.
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills are highly valued.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt, eligible for overtime compensation. Candidates that successfully pass the screening process and are deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invited to an in-person oral interview. Tentative "1st Round" in-person interviews are scheduled for April 17, 2025; Tentative "2nd Round" in-person interviews are scheduled for April 24, 2025. The top scoring candidates from the 2nd Round oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill the current and/or additional vacancies throughout the City. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening). The Organization The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year. The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers. The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2025 is $ 399.1 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 209.6 million.
