Position Overview The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring project activities for assigned scopes of work comply with established standards, specifications and contractual requirements. This position may work in partnership with more senior quality leaders on larger projects. This individual will collect, analyze, and report on project quality performance, as well as lead corrective and preventative actions to improve overall quality on the project.
Essential Functions
- Coordinate and oversee quality control processes, including third party testing and verification of testing requirements.
- Conduct quality audits, testing, and inspections to assess compliance to Project Quality Plan and standards.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to improve overall quality.
- Work with project team to resolve quality issues a timely fashion and document through corrective action process.
- Responsible for documenting and tracking nonconformances, including deficiencies and NCRs.
- Responsible for accuracy and completeness of all quality documents and records.
- Prepare quality reports for management, including quality activities, performance, and improvement opportunities.
- Investigate and resolve quality issues with vendors (suppliers & subcontractors).
- Collect and analyze data to measure quality performance on the project.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant work experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant technical, quality or construction experience.
- Knowledge of construction standards/specifications (USACE, DOT, ASTM, ACI, AASHTO) preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems in a collaborative approach with coworkers.
- Must be self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency.
- Possess high attention to detail with the ability to recognize deficiencies.
- Receptive to coaching and mentoring from supervisor and peers.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment and adjust priorities based on evolving project changes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Outlook, SharePoint, Project Management software.
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to pass MVR.
Working Conditions
- Travel - This position is based out of the Ames' Western Office in West Valley City, Utah. If supporting multiple projects, travel is 50-80% of position. For a single project, the position requires 100% in-person support.
- Office environment - extensive sitting at desk and computer; some standing, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching required; ability to lift 5-20 pounds occasionally.
- Construction site environment - physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach and climb. Exposed to high noise levels.
- Exposure to all forms of weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, dry, humid, windy) for the entire work day.
