Job Overview
The Tax Associate position will be responsible for assisting with the preparation, filing, and payments for federal and state income tax, sales/use tax, property tax, fleet and fuel tax, business license, and franchise tax. The position will be responsible for helping to conduct tax research and reach conclusions for various federal/state and local tax laws. The Tax Associate will also assist with inputting into various tax and non-tax software platforms and also help to ensure that all Company vehicles are properly tagged and titled to legally operate on all US roadways. The Tax Associate will also be responsible for working with all tax functional areas concerning tax audits, tax appeals/assessments, economic incentive benefits, budgets, completing journal entries, and related tax compliance. This position should have good communication skills and be able to process large amounts of data and work in collaboration with other Company personnel on matters regarding areas of tax.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepares, files, assists, and processes tax returns and makes timely payments as it relates to federal, state, and local tax compliance matters including income tax, franchise tax, sales/use tax, property tax, fleet and fuel tax, business licenses and unclaimed property
- Assists with tax notices, assessments
- Helps manage taxes including work associated with economic incentive opportunitiesand has knowledge of tax and non-tax ERP systems, such as PTMS, SAP, OneSource, Vertex, etc.
- Assists with all relevant activities to ensure all Company vans, pickups, tractors, and trailers (total assets of approx. 10,100) are properly tagged and titled to operate on U.S. highways by maintaining appropriate communication and collaboration with field personnel
- Assists with all tax functional areas with tax audits, appeals/assessments, notices, annual report filings, business license, unclaimed property, fleet, and property tax
- Works on special tax projects and performs applicable tax research and reaches valid conclusions with respect to the assigned tax projects by analyzing current tax laws and statutes
- Responsible for preparing accounting journal entries, account analysis, and assisting with preparing budgets for tax functions
- Conducts research on tax laws, rules, and regulations
- Participates in project tasks for various tax functional areas-income tax, sales/use tax, andproperty tax
- Prepares and assists with filing income tax returns, sales/use tax returns, property tax filings, state/local business license, vehicle registration renewals, and all tax payments
- Assists with all tax audits associated with income tax, sales/use tax, fleet, property tax, and other related business tax compliance
- Gathers information from a range of sources to analyze facts and reach conclusions

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Possessknowledge of accounting and/or tax procedures and strong business acumen

- Strong MS Excel, Business Intelligence Data Analysis (e.g. SQL, Snowflake, Power BI, Alteryx)
- Preferred knowledge of SAP, OneSource Tax Software, Vertex, Vertex Returns, PTMS
- Effective organization and analytical skillset to assist with Economic Development incentives
- Possess ability to help drive process improvements and utilize project management best practices
- Possess knowledge of using online systems and work with large amounts of data sets

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Knowledge acquired through 1 to up to 3 years of work experience

- Degree in Accounting or Finance
