The Internal Auditor supports financial integrity, compliance, and operational efficiency across The Salvation Army in Minnesota and North Dakota. $56,000 - $62,000 annually 2445 Prior Ave N, Roseville, MN 55113 This position is responsible for planning and conducting audits to assess adherence to internal controls and financial policies. The Internal Auditor ensures vendor compliance by collecting and verifying W-9 forms, oversees the reconciliation and monitoring of Twin Cities kettle revenue, and prepares year-end 1099 and 1098C tax statements in accordance with IRS regulations. Additionally, this role ensures the accuracy of bank account signers by verifying records with financial institutions. Essential Functions (approximate time spent)
- Audit Planning and Execution (60%): Plan and conduct audits of Divisional Corps and other units to ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies.
- Vendor Compliance and W-9 Verification (13%): Ensure W-9 forms are properly collected, verified, and maintained for all vendors in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Twin Cities Kettle Revenue Oversight (12%): Compile, monitor, and reconcile kettle revenue to ensure accuracy and proper financial reporting.
- Year-End Tax Statement Preparation (10%): Prepare, reconcile, and distribute year-end 1099 and 1098C statements in accordance with IRS regulations.
- Bank Account Verification (5%): Ensure bank account signers are accurate and obtain verification from financial institutions to confirm authorized signers.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in auditing, accounting, or financial compliance required, preferably in a nonprofit or governmental setting.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), or CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) certification preferred but not required.
- Must pass background checks, possess a valid driver's license, and meet the MVR driver's qualifications.
Competencies
- Knowledge of GAAP, auditing standards, financial reconciliation, risk assessment, and compliance auditing.
- Familiarity with nonprofit financial regulations, IRS reporting (1099, 1098C), and internal controls preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word as well as accounting/audit software.
- Skilled in analyzing financial data, identifying issues, and providing actionable insights.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to train and mentor field personnel.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to confidentiality and ethical financial practices.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
