Senior Accountant-Crop

The Opportunity: The purpose of this role is to oversee and manage a specific Finance Division ensuring optimal performance and compliance with Divisional Finance guidelines. This role involves leading the accounting compliance activities, engaging with external stakeholders to influence financial reporting, and contributing to the achievement of Group finance objectives. Additionally, the role may also involve supporting the transition to IFRS 17 Accounting for Insurance Contracts and providing accurate financial information for the QBE region and its operating divisions.

  • Location: Ramsey, Minnesota, United States
  • Work Arrangement: This role is hybrid, where you will be expected to be in the office 2-3 days per week {M-F 37.5 hours}
  • The salary range for this role is between $69,500-$104,500

Your new role

  • Design effective applications for business use by utilizing subject matter expertise, analyzing business requirements and recommending best solutions to key stakeholders
  • Support project efficiency by collaborating with business system analysts, business unit teams and project managers to set appropriate schedule, tasks and quality guidelines for application development projects
  • Mentor team in the building of applications by assisting with estimation of resources required for assigned components, supporting the accurate translation of specifications into programming language, forecasting solutions to anticipated problems and resolving basic escalated issues
  • Facilitate the development of accurate applications by coordinating testing of functionality and analyzing complex sample data-sets to ensure accuracy of program output, identify and escalate issues and support the achievement of quality assurance
  • Assist junior developers by reviewing application design and code and clarifying issues to troubleshoot errors and gaps, refine processes and technical standards and ensure continual effectiveness of team deliverables
  • Analyze financial data, identify trends and prepare reports for senior management.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and ensure timely and accurate information delivery.
  • Oversee activities to ensure high-quality, consistent, and timely service delivery.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and support compliance with accounting requirements.
  • Deliver accurate record-keeping by writing detailed documentation for the operation of complex programs to facilitate user understanding of application functioning
  • Liaise with vendors by communicating application enhancement needs and informing on operational issues to ensure deliverables work effectively and align with changing organizational requirements
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by demonstrating cultural expectations and influencing others to reward performance and value "can do" people, accountability, diversity and inclusion, flexibility, continuous improvement, collaboration, creativity and fun

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Certification as an accountant.
  • Significant relevant work experience

Preferred Work Experience

  • Strong financial accounting background (CA/CPA or equivalent) with continuous professional development.
  • Extensive post qualification technical accounting experience in general insurance.
  • Proven experience in preparation of consolidated financial statements.
  • Experience of dealing with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Extensive experience in finance team or accounting practice.
  • Experience in general insurance/reinsurance.
  • Experience in strategic analysis and development of reporting processes.
  • Practical experience in management and financial reporting environments.
  • Supervisory or management experience within Finance.
  • Contribution to the management of a complex financial services business.
  • Building, leading and retaining talent in a finance operations environment.

Compensation Package: The salary range for this role is provided above. This is the national range for location(s) listed. The salary offer will be decided based on the role's complexity, its location, and the candidate's professional background, including their education and experience.
