DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for verifying the precision of all testing procedures in accordance with Pennsylvania Test Method (PTM) protocols and relevant standards set by the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), as well as ensuring the correctness of laboratory reports. You will also monitor shipments to confirm that the quality of delivered materials complies with specifications, ensuring that weigh slips accurately reflect the quantities shipped.
Daily responsibilities will encompass ensuring that transportation projects adhere to all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Support is available for the evaluation of project materials at construction sites and district offices, conducted either on-site or remotely. This evaluation process involves verifying records for compliance with source approvals, certification requirements, quantities, and sampling/testing standards. The calibration of equipment from both the Department and vendors, including scales and testing instruments, is confirmed. Additionally, product design procedures are assessed, and hands-on Local Acceptance (HOLA) testing is carried out as necessary. Interested in learning more? - Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
- Schedule may be subject to change due to seasonal/operational needs
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an ad-hoc basis, with managers approval. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bridgeville.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
- Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
- One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
