JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Mitchell lab in the Department of Entomology is seeking a Laboratory Research Technologist to assist with laboratory research on the chemical ecology of insects. The technologist will perform experiments involving the discovery and function of pheromones andchemoreceptors, train personnel in relevant laboratory protocols, and assist in managing the daily operations of the laboratory.

The Laboratory Research Technologist's primary duties include:

  • Perform experiments and analyze data related to laboratory research in chemical ecology, including but not limited to field collection of insect specimens; extraction of insect-derived compounds; purification and sequencing of nucleic acids; genomic annotation of gene families; and functional expression of chemoreceptor proteins.

  • Assist in maintaining laboratory resources, including research instrumentation, live insects, and repositories of genomic sequence data.

  • Develop standard operating procedures for laboratory techniques and provide training for graduate and undergraduate students.

  • Order laboratory supplies and reagents; ensure laboratory safety and compliance; maintain records of such.

This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding.

Education and Experience:

This position requires a bachelor's degree and 1 or more years of relevant experience in laboratory research and molecular/cellular biology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$38,300.00 - $55,500.00
