Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, coordinates nursing quality initiatives and nursing evidence-based practice (EBP) and research education; mentors staff in quality, EBP, and research projects; and designs, conducts, and disseminates research on topics of strategic importance to the Department of Nursing.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinates nursing quality initiatives as defined by nursing leadership
* Provide expert consultation for nursing leaders on assigned quality foci. * Develop and lead effective performance improvement initiatives in collaboration with nursing leadership and in alignment with Lean principles. * Understand and employ principles of transformational leadership and structural empowerment in leading initiatives; develop frontline clinical staff and clinical leaders to initiate and sustain improvements and take ownership and pride in outcomes. * Provide oversight for chart review, data collection, and data reporting processes performed by data staff to ensure alignment with external and internal data reporting requirements. * Plan and execute processes for measuring effectiveness of the above. * Deliver reports on the above for communication to nursing and hospital leaders * Disseminate DH innovations in nursing quality and EBP internally and externally. (50%) - Coordinates and delivers QI, EBP, and Research Education for Dept of Nursing
* Coordinate and/or directly provide education on assigned quality foci for nursing staff at all levels. * Coordinate and/or directly provide education on EBP and research skills for nurses at all levels. * Develop multi-pronged educational strategies for a variety of durations and settings to meet the range of needs/interests of staff, including night shift. * Align educational activities for efficiency with other departments' structures such as New Grad program; Nursing Orientation; Annual Competencies; and unit-level staff meetings, committees, and communication structures. * Plan and execute processes for measuring effectiveness of the above. * Deliver reports on the above to hospital leaders. (20%) - Mentors staff EBP and research projects
* Serve as primary mentor for assigned Scholars to enhance their projects and growth. * Ensure that project plans are consistent with the best current evidence, Magnet documentation needs, unit and divisional leadership's goals, DH policies and procedures, IRB requirements, and other applicable expectations or requirements. * Establish structure for frequent Scholar reporting of progress and early identification of deviations from project plans and timeline. * Identify barriers to project progress early to ensure effectiveness of Scholars program investments; coach Scholar and communicate problems to leadership as appropriate. * Deliver reports on the above to hospital leaders.. (20%) - Departmental and hospital service
* Participate actively and effectively in departmental meetings, including Nursing EBP and Research Development Council. * Contribute to DH and Dept of Nursing special events, task force groups, and councils. (10%) - Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications. (0%)

Education:
- Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Required
Work Experience:
- 4-6 years Typically, five (5) or more years of nursing experience and one (1) or more years of quality improvement Required and
- 1-3 years evidence-based practice project leadership Required and
- 1-3 years scientific research experience, knowledge and competence with data analysis, and scientific writing. Required
Licenses:
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required and
- RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent knowledge and skills in scientific research.
- Outstanding teaching and mentoring abilities.
- Independence in planning effective programs of education and research.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain expert knowledge of pertinent scientific literature, national guidelines, and regulatory requirements to guide nursing quality improvement and assurance activities.
- Demonstrates exceptional skills for EBP and research activities including comprehensive literature searches, evaluation of evidence, productive engagement with theory, scientific project design, conduct of research and EBP in accordance with regulatory, ethical, and scientific principles, coordination of sound data management and analysis, and excellence in dissemination activities including public presentation and scientific writing skills.
- Demonstrates consistent effectiveness in independent, project-based work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates excellent project management skills with efficient time and resource management.
- Ability to think and lead in a data-driven manner, devises effective and creative means of measuring phenomena important to nursing quality, and mentor others in "data thinking."
- Ability to balance time and effort in keeping with changing departmental needs.
- Ability to identify needs and plans for professional development and growth.
- Ability to develop work plans with identified milestones, deliverables, and deadlines for communication to manager and other nursing leaders; provides regular progress reports.
- Advanced skill in data software such as Excel or Access preferred.
- Proficiency in SPSS or SAS desirable.
