The Sponsorship Manager contributes to the success of Brookfield Zoo Chicago ("BZC") by supporting BZC's financial sustainability through revenue-generating fundraising programs by achievement of sponsorship sales goals that will be reached by researching, communicating, negotiating, contracting, and fulfilling partnership connections.

This is a non-union, fulltime, salaried position, grade 10, with a hiring range of $86,292 to $94,921. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. *Serve as a key member of the Development team by supporting the generation of sponsorship sales revenue to achieve annual goals. Establish and steward sponsorship-related partnerships by identifying prospects, researching potential leads, identifying marketing interests and revenue opportunities, preparing proposals, pitching ideas, negotiating contracts, closing sales, and preparing and fulfilling contracts. Foster positive relationships with existing and new sponsorship partners.
  2. *Responsible for successful solicitation efforts. Achieve and exceed assigned revenue goals each year. Research portfolio of prospects and clients to understand market and industry trends and fill the sales pipeline with new contacts and leads.
  3. *Utilize telephone solicitation as well as electronic and written communication to secure meetings and engage prospects and clients. Develop customized partnership programs that address client's needs. Negotiate contracts in accordance with BZC policies and oversee contract execution and administration.
  4. *Identify creative opportunities to grow the available inventory of sellable assets, while ensuring asset valuation is up to date.
  5. *Provide excellent customer service and foster strong business relationships throughout the sponsorship cycle. Oversees sponsorship activations and event participation to ensure positive engagement and event success.
  6. *Prepare weekly sales reports, contracts, recaps reports, and budget documents, as needed.
  7. Other related duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business or related field required or eight years of equivalent training/experience. High school diploma or educational equivalent (e.g., GED.) required.
  • Four years of relevant sponsorship, marketing sales, and/or fundraising experience.
  • History and record of negotiating and closing new sponsorship deals, multi-year deals, and renewals.
  • Experience in developing relationships with local and national corporations. Ability to establish, interact effectively, and maintain strong rapport and positive relationships with a warm, amiable personality. Ability to nurture, engage, maintain and grow positive relationship Track record of being proactive with respect to institutional evaluation, needs, and activities.
  • Ability to deal with emergent issues, multiple projects, and clients simultaneously. Ability to meet critical timelines/key date schedules.
  • Strong communications skills required, including verbal, written, and effective listening skills. English fluency at a full professional proficiency.
  • Strong computer skills required. Experience with a variety of software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strategic in orientation, proactive, persistent, and helpful.
  • Solid analytical and proven decision-making skills required.
  • Must be self-motivated, flexible, confident, goal oriented, and enjoy working in a dynamic environment.
  • Cultural competency; experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience.
  • Valid driver's license is required at time of hire. Illinois residents must possess a valid Illinois driver's license or obtain one within 90 days of hire. Valid out-of-state driver's license is required for out-of-state residents.



DESIRABLE/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Multilingual ability and/or Spanish fluency a plus.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge and/or other customer service database management programs.
  • Working or general knowledge of the non-profit IRS rules of sponsorship a plus.



ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position description summarizes the primary duties and functions of this position, but should not be considered a complete listing of every duty the incumbent may ever be called upon to perform. This is a visible position, interacting with various internal departments and BZC's entire range of external constituencies. In order to understand how activities affect operations, incumbent is required to gain an intimate understanding of BZC, its mission, vision, values, and operating philosophies. Position requires organization, management, and communication with partners to close sales, generate revenue, and secure client renewals. Incumbent must enjoy a challenge, be passionate about his/her work, and have a commitment to excellence. Workweeks of 45+ hours are not unusual. Position involves staffing events on weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed. Some early mornings or late evenings may be required.

Dental Insurance & Vision Care Coverage: A dental plan and an employee-paid vision care plan are available. A waiver credit is offered to employees who waive enrollment in the dental plan. Coverage begins on the employee's hire date.

Mental Health: Support, counseling, and resources for life issues at no cost to the employee. Eligible employees and their immediate family have access to Perspectives, a dynamic Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) which provides 24/7, confidential care and resources to address work and life stressors.

Advanced Inquiry Degree Program



Brookfield Zoo Chicago has partnered with Project Dragonfly at Miami University of Ohio to bring an exciting Master's degree program to the Chicagoland area. The Advanced Inquiry Program (AIP) is an inquiry-driven learning experience, allowing participants to take classes from Miami University faculty. Enrollment is open to applicants with a bachelor's degree, regardless of academic major or profession. This program is designed for teachers and other education professionals.



BZC University



The Zoo offers a variety of training, both on-site and via virtual classes and e-learning through Brookfield Zoo Chicago University at no cost to employees, including professional development, skill-building courses, conservation topics, zoo and animal-related topics, safety, leadership development, wellness, and much more. Instructors include guest speakers, staff presenters, and outside trainers.



Tuition Reimbursement



Regular, full-time non-union employees who have at least one year of seniority are eligible to apply for reimbursement of tuition expenses to a maximum of $1,000 per calendar year.



Access Credit Union



Employees are eligible immediately upon employment to participate in the credit union. The minimum balance is $5. Savings are insured up to $100,000, and savings accounts, new and used car loans, personal loans, student loans, and much more are available.

Consistent with our conservation ethic, we have a "Freebie" table where staff can place unused/unwanted items that still have value for other staff members to claim. This has been a great way to recycle/upcycle by making unused items available to others.



Little Free Library: Take a Book. Share a Book.




The Zoo has a "Little Free Library" book exchange. If an employee sees a book they would like to read, they can take it, or they may donate a book they have finished. When they are done, they can return it to the Little Free Library or leave it at another Little Free Library location for others to enjoy.



Zoo Day Camp Discount




Zoo staff who register their child(ren) for Summer Camp at Brookfield Zoo Chicago receive a discounted price for a week of camp for each child registered. The discount is limited to immediate family members only (grandchildren included). Lunch and T-shirts are not discounted.



Zoo Discounts




Employee discounts are available on BZC gift shop and restaurant purchases, including 25 cent drinks when the Zoo-issued drink cup is used.


Brookfield Zoo Chicago is open 363 days each year. Work schedules vary with each position. This position may require the ability to work a non-traditional schedule on-site that may include holidays, weekends, mornings and/or evenings.
