Library Director - WVU Tech (Beckley)

Description

The Library Director is the lead administrator for the WVU Tech Library with overall responsibility for leading, staffing, programming, and enriching the services and opportunities the library brings to the life of the WVU Tech campus community. The Library Director works with library staff at WVU Tech and across the West Virginia University (WVU) Libraries, student support services, academic units, and directly with students to enhance, develop and integrate library services and resources.

The Library Director's focus is on enhancing information literacy across campus through instruction and integrated services and programming. The Library Director also participates in and develops "Communiversity" programming. The Library Director is a faculty position that participates in the faculty processes at WVU Tech and is a member of WVU Libraries Faculty Assembly. In this small library, the Library Director must also be engaged in all aspects of library work, including supervision, facilities, outreach, reference and research services and desk coverage as needed.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Administration



  • Ensure the library is operating effectively and efficiently.
  • Manage the library budget and compile and maintain statistics and reports.
  • Hire, train and supervise library staff.
  • Advocate for space and resource needs of the students and faculty.
  • Develop and maintain library policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that training, schedules, and work assignments for library student workers are managed efficiently and effectively.
  • Develop and oversee a program of library tours and orientation that effectively engages all staff and student workers.
  • Oversee the library's social media presence.
  • Oversee the Rahall Congressional Archive facility and facilitate tours and programming. in this space. Collaborate with the WVU Congressional Archivist as needed.
  • May assist with proctoring exams for students with accommodations.


Librarianship



  • Develop, deliver, and assess instruction and other library services.
  • Teach the WVU Tech sections of the ULIB 101 credit course, collaborating with the SSI unit of the WVU Libraries .
  • Develop and regularly update the Library's Research guides and utilize other digital services to create content and to engage with all students including instructional videos and tutorials.
  • Coordinate the library's participation in student events and workshops.
  • With the Senior Librarian, provides reference and research service and provides desk service as needed during the day, extended hours, and for Saturday events.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of ordering, cataloging, and processing of materials, inventory control tasks, shelf maintenance, and weeding projects.
  • Serve as an ex-offico member of the WVU Tech Library Committee Professional Development and Service:
  • Engage in professional development to update skills.
  • Present on library innovation and accomplishments.
  • Serve on campus, library, professional, and university committees as appropriate.
  • Participate in the WVU Libraries Faculty Assembly.


PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

The Library Director is a member of the WVU Libraries faculty. Their evaluation is based on West Virginia University Libraries: Criteria for Library Faculty Appointment, Retention, Promotion, and Merit, the current Position Description and the Assignment Document for the year under review.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution.
  • Strong understanding of the concepts and methods of information literacy and instructional experience.
  • Four or more years of academic library work experience as a librarian.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Ability to work independently, and flexibly with others in a team setting.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
