Responsibilities

The Neonatal Nurse Educator is responsible and accountable for the quality of nursing care provided in the NICU and Nursery by providing policies, procedures, clinical orientation, staff development, mentoring, consultation, and the maintenance of state and national standards of care. The Neonatal Nurse Educator is responsible for the collection, submission, evaluation and dissemination of required data. The NICU education plan is developed and implemented in consultation with the NICU Nursing and Medical Directors. The Neonatal Nurse Educator will also act as the NICU Educator in accordance with Title 25 (Texas registrar), Subchapter J. Hospital Level of Care Designations for Neonatal and Maternal Care. The educator will provide outreach education related to trends identified through the neonatal QAPI Plan, specific requests, and system needs to lower-level neonatal designated facilities, and as appropriate and applicable, to non-designated facilities, birthing centers, independent midwife practices, and prehospital providers. The facility must have staff with appropriate training for managing neonates/infants and written policies, procedures, and guidelines specific to the facility for the stabilization and resuscitation of neonates based on current standards of professional practice. Variances from these standards are monitored through the neonatal QAPI Plan.



Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Current and valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State.

2. Three (3) years of clinical experience in neonatal nursing care a. Minimum of one (1) year experience in neonatal nursing care at a NICU that is equivalent to a Regional or Community NICU

3. NRP certificate upon hire and maintain current

4. NRP Instructor preferred

5. Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
