Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Information Security & Identity Management division manages the University's Information Security Office and Identity Management. The Security Office is responsible for coordinating and ensuring that information security across the University is consistent with industry best practices and the University's compliance obligations. Identity Management (IdM) identifies individuals within an enterprise or group and defines and controls the access they have to information and resources within a computer network based on their roles and circumstances.
Position Summary
This position is a 100% remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Identity and Access Management ( IAM) Analyst provides tier 2 operational and engineering support for enterprise identity technology and functions at UNC-Chapel Hill. Responsibilities include responding and resolving mission-critical issues which have the potential to seriously impact the University. Systems in scope include Single Sign-On, Multi-factor authentication, Group Management, and all other identity-related process and infrastructure. This position will be the first line of support within the Identity engineering team. The position will triage and ensure resolution of all incoming issues, and engaging tier 3 and engineering for the most complex problems. The position directly interacts with UNC staff, faculty, and students as needed. This position plans and carries out testing of these mission-critical security systems. Testing responsibilities include planning the testing cycles, writing test plans, creating test accounts, communicating independently with participating test groups (e.g., user acceptance testers, security testers, accessibility testers, etc.), and ensuring all testers complete their testing in a timely fashion. This position creates and maintains end-user documentation for online help, and creates and maintains documentation for internal troubleshooting. The position works closely with tier 3 engineering to identify process and efficiency improvements for unit operations and end-user experience.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's and 1-2 years' experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years' experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Experience administrating groups management systems such as Grouper, AD/Azure/EntraID, etc.
  • Experience administrating SSO systems such as Shibboleth, AD/Azure/EntraID, etc.
  • Experience administrating MFA systems such as Duo, AD/Azure/EntraID, etc.
  • Proven ability to write and execute software and system test plans.
  • Experience with a ticketing system such as TeamDynamix, Remedy, ServiceNow, etc.
  • Proven customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Experience with Internet2 Trusted Access Platform solutions is preferred.
  • Experience at R1 research institutions is preferred.
  • Experience with UNIX command-line and shell scripting is preferred.
  • Experience with LDAP administration is preferred.
  • Experience with Duo MFA administration is preferred.
