System/Server Administrator
Job Classification: 9702SR - IT Pro 2 - System/Server Administration
Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (with additional hours as needed)
Work Location: Hybrid (four days onsite, one day remote; may vary based on business needs)

Position Overview
The University of Minnesota's University Services IT team is seeking a System/Server Administrator to support IT infrastructure for various Auxiliary Services business units, including Printing Services, Housing and Residential Life, UMarket, and Parking.
This role involves configuring, installing, monitoring, upgrading, and maintaining IT systems, software, hardware, and servers critical to these operations. The administrator will also ensure system stability, security, and performance while collaborating with vendors and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities
* Administer IT systems, software, and servers, ensuring optimal performance, security, and stability.
* Manage system upgrades, patches, and releases, following change management procedures.
* Provide server and workstation support, including OS installations, user setup, and troubleshooting.
* Monitor performance metrics, security logs, and vulnerabilities using tools such as Splunk and Qualys.
* Develop automation scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) to streamline operations.
* Maintain and support network infrastructure (TCP/IP, Ethernet, IPv4/IPv6, routing, firewalls).
* Participate in on-call rotation for critical system issues.
* Assist with cloud-based solution integrations.
* Collaborate with business units and vendors to address service concerns and enhance system capabilities.
* Document processes, incidents, and root cause analyses for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Qualifications
Required:
* BA/BS degree and two years of experience in system/server administration or master's degree.
* Experience with Windows and Linux server administration.
Preferred:
* Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, Ethernet, IPv4/IPv6, routing, and firewalls.
* Database administration experience.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Project leadership experience for system/server enhancements and upgrades.
* Familiarity with VoIP, IoT devices, and digital video intercom systems.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $75,000 - $85,000, depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
