Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
Campus Health (CH) is a multi-specialty ambulatory college health clinic providing quality, and affordable health care for eligible students and spouses. Annually, CH has more than 80,000 patient encounters, which includes Primary Care and Women's Health as well as specialty clinics in sports medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, physical therapy, counseling and psychological services, travel clinic and allergy clinic. Weekend acute care is provided from 8-5 PM. On site ancillary services include pharmacy,
OTC pharmacy, Student Stores pharmacy, medical laboratory, and radiology.
Campus Health has been continuously accredited since 1986 by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. All personnel are trained in the concepts and principles of Performance Improvement and serve as team members and leaders in shaping and defining the organization as it strives to provide quality and safe care.
Campus Health collaborates with Student Wellness and Campus Recreation and other Student Affairs partners to provide education and outreach to assist in keeping the campus population healthy.
Education and research comprise another important function of CH. CH provides clinical rotations and practicums for students in the School of Education, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and Public Health, Department of Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Health and Radiology. In addition, CH serves as a research site for a number of faculty and graduate student grants and contracts, where CH staff participates with the principal investigators across a variety of medical specialties. |
Position Summary |
This position is eligible for a Sign On Bonus of $2,000 to be paid in two installment: - $ 1,000 within 30 days of your hire date and - $ 1,000 12 months after hire date
The Medical/Nursing Assistant position within the Department of Nursing Services performs administrative and patient care tasks, supportive counseling, and a variety of treatments, under the close supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician. The Medical/Nursing Assistant is a multi-skilled health professional who works interdependently with other health care professionals to provide quality health care to the patient. Duties include maintaining the patient care environment, performing routine clerical functions, and transporting and moving patients. Also includes obtaining and recording pertinent health information, maintaining patient data, and providing information to patients and families. This position is utilized in primary care, gynecology, same day care, after hours and sports medicine settings within this facility. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require registration as a Nurse Aide by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (
AAMA.) |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Nursing Assistant: Must possess current listing as a Nurse Aide I in good standing with the Department of Health and Human Services in North Carolina.
Medical Assistant: Completion of an approved Medical Assistant program. Certification or registration to practice as a Medical Assistant is required to perform the duties of the position. Certification or registration may be by the American Association of Medical Assistants (
AAMA), registered through the American Medical Technologists or as a Clinical Medical Assistant by the National Healthcareer Association. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience in an ambulatory health care setting preferred. |

Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
Daily, physical effort and stamina are required for the delivery of direct and indirect patient care. Examples include transporting, bending, lifting, standing for long periods of time, and monitoring of patient demand throughout the clinics that require extensive walking throughout the workday.
Daily, the Medical/Nurse Assistant has the potential for:
* Direct exposure to infectious diseases specific to this age group (i.e., meningitis, mononucleosis,
AIDS, Hepatitis, Streptococcal infections, sexually transmitted infections, upper respiratory infections, etc.). Safeguards include utilization of Universal Blood and Body Fluid Precautions, provision of personal protective equipment in all clinical areas and mandatory attendance to an Occupational Safety and Health Exposure Class.
* Distressing events include exposure to violent, aggressive, and psychotic patients that may lead to potential harm to the nurse. Safeguards include immediate access to campus police and in-house security guards.
* Injuries can also occur due to the physical effort required for this position. Safeguards include continuing educational activities on proper body mechanics.
Visual acuity is essential for the implementation of nursing/medical care daily. Examples may include collecting vital signs, reading medical charts, and documentation. Manual dexterity is required in the performance of many areas of direct and indirect patient care. Application of ace wraps and splints, and application of dressings.
The nature of the Medical/Nurse Assistant requires flexibility for change, knowledge of nursing theories and practices, understanding of computer technology systems and programs, and the ability to adapt to advances in medicine. Advances in medical and computer technologies are on-going and complex that results in new approaches to the delivery of patient care. As a result of these advances, standards of practice may change requiring revision of policies and procedures. |

**ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS
Eligibility Requirements
Only candidates for or employees in probationary, permanent, or time-limited positions working at least 20 hours per week may be eligible for Sign-on or Retention bonuses. Bonuses for eligible employees working in part-time positions over 20 hours per week will be prorated based on hours worked.
Any groups of more than 50 employees receiving bonuses require pre-approval by the Office of State Budget and Management.
Sign-on and Retention bonuses must not be tied to meeting specific goals, special levels of productivity, quality and accuracy or work, efficiencies, or attendance.
1. Sign-On Bonuses
A Sign-on bonus may be offered either for a specific job classification or an individual position. A Sign-on bonus must be part of a program established to attract qualified candidates in critical positions that have labor market shortages, and it must be common practice to offer a Sign-on bonus to a candidate for a position to be competitive in the market.
To be eligible for a Sign-on bonus, an individual must not have worked in a probationary, permanent, or time-limited appointment in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including but not limited to the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system in a position subject to the State Human Resources Act.
