Wintel Technical Engineer (remote)

What you will do

Johnson Controls is seeking a talented Wintel Technical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing Windows-based infrastructure solutions, including servers, applications, and related technologies. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability of the Wintel environment while leading architectural initiatives that align with business objectives. This can be a remote position for the right candidate, but you must be a US citizen and live in the US.

How you will do it

  • Design and architect scalable and high-availability Windows-based infrastructure, including servers, Active Directory, and related services.

  • Develop high-level designs, detailed specifications, and architecture documentation for Wintel projects.

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain Windows servers and associated services, including IIS, SQL Server, and Active Directory.

  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using tools such as PowerShell, Ansible, or Terraform.

  • Monitor system performance and resource utilization, implementing optimizations as needed to enhance system efficiency.

  • Utilize monitoring tools (e.g., System Center Operations Manager, SolarWinds) to proactively identify and resolve issues.

  • Implement security best practices for Windows environments, including patch management, access controls, and security audits.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, conducting regular assessments and vulnerability scans.

  • Develop and implement disaster recovery plans and business continuity strategies for Wintel environments.

  • Conduct regular testing of disaster recovery procedures to ensure readiness and effectiveness.

  • Provide expert-level support for Wintel-related issues, troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network problems.

  • Collaborate with IT teams and other stakeholders to address complex technical challenges and improve overall system reliability.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for system architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.

  • Share knowledge and best practices with team members, providing training and mentorship as needed.

  • Stay current with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in Windows systems and related technologies.

  • Evaluate new tools and technologies to enhance system performance and operational efficiency.

What you will need
Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in Windows system administration, engineering, or architecture roles.

  • Proven experience with Windows Server operating systems (Windows Server 2012 and later) and associated technologies.

  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server features, Active Directory, Group Policy, and PowerShell scripting.

  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).

  • Familiarity with backup and recovery solutions and strategies.

  • Must be a US Citizen.

Preferred

  • Experience with database management systems (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server).

  • Knowledge of networking concepts, firewall configuration, and security protocols.

  • Familiarity with ITIL best practices and experience in change management processes.

  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate.
