Clinical Research Coordinator I

Faculty members of the Massachusetts General Hospital Gastrointestinal Unit are in search of a clinical research coordinator to help with research involving patients who undergo routine endoscopy and colonoscopy. We seek to learn more about a variety of gastrointestinal disorders (e.g. reflux disease, Barrett's esophagus, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulosis) and cancers of the gastrointestinal tract (e.g. polyps, colon cancer).

Responsibilities include:

  • Chart review and data abstraction
  • Study and protocol coordination
  • Survey/questionnaire administration
  • Data collection/management.
  • Tissue and blood sample collection/management.
  • IRB preparation and submission
  • Identifying and recruiting study subjects
  • Monitoring follow ups

Commensurate with experience and motivation, successful applicants may be invited to participate in data analysis and scientific manuscript preparation/writing. Research experience is not required; however, facility with Word and Excel is necessary. A 2+ year commitment is preferred, but not required.

Applicants should possess:

1. At minimum a bachelor's degree
2. A strong interest in participating in clinical medical research and in medical research as a career
3. Excellent communication skills, including ability to interact with patients and study subjects
4. Ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team
5. Facility with Microsoft Word and Excel
6. Ability to perform focused literature searches
7. A strong work ethic, excellent organizational skill, resourcefulness and desire to take initiative

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • New graduates with some relevant course/project work or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Clinical Research Coordinator I position outlined above.
  • Those with a minimum of 1-2 years of directly related work experience will be considered for a Clinical Research Coordinator II position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • A Clinical Research Coordinator I does not have any supervisory responsibility.
  • A Clinical Research Coordinator II may assist with the training and orientation of new staff members.
