The EMU Manager is responsible for the following:
- Manages the day to day operations of the EMU.
- Oversees the coordination of staff scheduling.
- Works closely with providers to ensure that the EMU is aware of and prepared for specific patient needs.
- Manages technical staff, ensuring qualified staff is assigned to cover anticipated and contingent patient care needs.
- Monitors and maintains compliance with regulatory requirements and serves as liaison with hospital support service departments to schedule and arrange needed clinical/ technical services.
- Plans for future EMU clinic growth and develops strategy and provides vision.
- Measures and tracks patient care volumes and identifies trends and new strategic opportunities.
- Researches and recommends new clinical and technical programs and changes to the unit's processes and procedures.
- Submits comprehensive proposals for the expansion of programs and services.
- Develops and presents budgets and timelines to propose updates to procedures.
- Implements approved changes to strategic and operational procedures to ensure that unit activities, processes and goals are aligned with patient care needs of the Neurology Department's Division and Center.
- Evaluates and recommends changes or modifications in space usage to improve work flow and promote efficient use of space.
- Participates in facility design, program implementation, evaluation documentation and rate development for approved new programs and procedure changes.
- Recruits and manages the EMU Lab Staff. Monitors and evaluates staff work performance, providing guidance and feedback including performing merit reviews.
- Initiates personnel actions as warranted in conjunction with the Human Resource Department.
- Plans and arranges staff in service and continuing educational programs.
- Ensures that supplies are stored and rotated in accordance with hospital/department procedures including established par levels.
- Analyzes patient volume trends to ensure that supply volume is aligned with patient volume trends. Collaborates with Supply Chain to develop supply strategies including rapid delivery and supply interruption contingency strategies.
- Participates in department continuing education including participating as an instructor in the EEG Training Program.
- Trains and teaches technical staff and other clinical staff.
- Communicates principle/ theory to epilepsy physicians and other professional staff.
- Contributes to department continuing education. Performs EEG monitoring and complex intraoperative procedures as needed.
- Confirms medical history from patient/families to identify and meet patient specific needs such as physical/mental limitations, current physiological status regarding the testing procedure, and to determine final testing, parameters in conjunction with the Laboratory protocols.
- Maintains knowledge of current professional trends and practices through participation in professional organizations and attendance at conferences, workshops and other continuing education programs.
The EMU Manager must have the following:
- Successful completion of national board examinations associated with practice administrated by the American Board of Registered EEG/EP Technologists ABRET or Board eligible is required.
- Certification in CPR required.
- Associates Degree and Graduation from an electroneurodiagnostic technology training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs
- 4 years clinical EEG experience required.
