Research Scientist II - Lander Lab

Broad Institute
United States, Massachusetts, Cambridge
Mar 28, 2025

Description & Requirements

We are seeking an experimental research scientist to join the Lander Laboratory at the Broad Institute.

The Lander Lab is focused on identifying cellular programs which will inform discovery of biological mechanisms for human disease.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join this team to make fundamental discoveries in mapping the transcriptional and epigenetic landscape in various cell types and tissues, understanding cellular programs, and developing new tools to uncover mechanisms of disease. Our team is developing and applying technologies combining CRISPR, single-cell measurements, and epigenomic tools in human cells and tissue to understand genetic regulation in health and disease.

The Lander Lab is a dynamic, innovative and interdisciplinary workplace and is seeking to hire an exceptional scientist who will work closely with collaborators throughout the Broad community in this next foundational project to understand the human genome.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

  • Lead and collaborate with scientists and research associates to make fundamental discoveries about gene regulation and disease genetics
  • Develop and apply functional genomics techniques, including chromatin profiling, single-cell transcriptomics, and CRISPR-based assays in human cells and tissues
  • Design and lead independent projects including developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Make significant contributions to scientific papers, quantitative data analyses and presentations
  • Contribute to generation of protocols and data analyses, train personnel and support other scientists in the laboratory
  • Work with multidisciplinary team to achieve project goals
  • Manage administrative and operational activities for the lab, and coordinate with other groups at the Broad
  • Managing Environmental Health and Safety protocols and procedures, coordinating inspections, attending committee meetings, ensure regulatory compliance
  • Maintaining laboratory safety standards and procedures, serving as emergency preparedness representative for the laboratory, and providing training when necessary

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or related life science field
  • Additional 3+ years of relevant laboratory experience in academic or industry setting strongly preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage administrative and operational activities
  • Strong hands-on experience in molecular biology and genomics
  • Experience with single-cell RNA-seq and chromatin profiling highly desirable
  • Experience with quantitative data analysis. Knowledge of computational methods is a plus
  • Proven track record of critical scientific thinking, multi-tasking ability, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team with scientists from a wide range of research expertise
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to adapt to and effectively manage changes in a fast paced and dynamic environment
