Sentara is hiring an Operational Pharmacy Specialist at Sentara Home Infusion Services

Location: Charlottesville VA

Status: Full Time (40 hrs/wk)

Shift: Days

Hours: 8am-5pm

No Weekends or Holidays

The Operational Pharmacy Specialist is responsible and accountable for the provision of safe, effective, and prompt pharmacy services. Participates in all necessary aspects of the medication-use system while providing comprehensive and individualized pharmaceutical care to the patients in their assigned areas. Assumes local and system leadership responsibility and accountability for specialized areas of pharmacy operations. Demonstrates proactive ownership in pharmacy operations and obtains advanced certification in their specialized area of practice if available. Serves as a resource for staff, implements and supports local and system operational initiatives.

  • Assures the appropriateness of all provider medication orders in maintaining a high level of patient care and safety
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of policies, procedures and regulations applicable to their area of practice (e.g. compounding, drug diversion, quality and safety)
  • Supports the operational training of new employees and participates in the creation and maintenance of operational training materials
  • Assumes local and system responsibility and ownership for assigned tasks related to their area of practice (e.g. compounding, drug diversion, quality and safety)
  • Consistently follows and assists with the development of operational policies and procedures related to their area of practice (e.g. compounding, drug diversion, quality and or safety)
  • Continually seeks out additional training opportunities and stay abreast of new and changing information for assigned areas
  • Serves as a operational role model in the following areas: professionalism, collaboration, and teamwork with our customers (patient, nursing and physicians)
  • Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements in their area of practice (e.g. compounding, drug diversion, quality and safety)
  • Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
  • Precepts pharmacy students and/or pharmacy residents as assigned in operational oversight of area of practice (e.g. compounding, drug diversion, quality and or safety)
  • Provides peer coaching and constructive feedback to other colleagues in a professional and productive manner in areas related to pharmacy operations
  • Successfully leads local and system implementation of various system initiatives
  • Serves as a system expert and site lead in specialized pharmacy operations to their area of practice (e.g. compounding, drug diversion, quality and or safety)
  • Shares information routinely with local and system pharmacy team members and actively represents system pharmacy routinely in projects or on local and/or system committees
  • Serves as a resource for the staff on operational issues related to pharmacy practice (e.g. compounding, drug diversion, quality and or safety)
  • Area dependent and when applicable may take on PIC responsibility

Education

  • Bachelors Level Degree in Pharmacy (Required)
  • Doctorate Level Degree in Pharmacy (Preferred)

Certification/Licensure

  • Virginia Pharmacist License (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (Preferred)

Experience

  • 3 years Pharmacy Experience (Required)

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay rate for Full Time employment is:$87,443.20-$145,745.60Additional compensation may be available for this role such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
