THE POSITION

This position is responsible for overseeing the duties of the Bureau of Labor Law Compliance Investigators, including the enforcement of Pennsylvania's labor laws. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Labor Law Investigator District Office Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing investigations to ensure the enforcement of Pennsylvania's labor laws. Work involves conducting inspections and investigations; resolving disputes in a timely manner; and initiating prosecution against employers for violations which cannot be corrected through the administrative process. You will be given the opportunity to utilize your extensive knowledge of labor laws as you educate employers, organizations, and employees on the requirements of the laws as well as recent legal decisions affecting the application of such laws. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Supervising investigators as they investigate labor law claims
  • Assigning and reviewing cases before closeouts
  • Administering training to staff
  • Mediating disagreements between claimants and employers
  • Overseeing site visits at places of employment
  • Traveling as needed, to business locations and construction sites to conduct investigations and handle educational outreach
  • Creating work plans with investigators
  • Testifying in administrative hearings as well as civil and criminal court cases

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Philadelphia.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Labor Law Investigator (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and an associate's degree in a field related to investigative or construction and trades work; or
  • Three years of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and a bachelor's degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must live in or be willing to relocate to one of the counties of primary assignment: Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia.
  • You must demonstrate ability to adhere to the values and ethics of the Department of Labor and Industry.
  • You must demonstrate ability to work with professionalism, discretion and good work ethic.
  • You must have solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • You must show initiative and problem solving skills.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience enforcing labor standards or labor and employment laws.
