The Plutonium Technology Division within the Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a mid career Metallurgist to support research & development activities related to the processing, science, and characterization of actinide metals, and assist in the business growth of the division. In this role, the candidate may oversee activities focused on testing various chemical and/or material prototype systems, such as pyrochemical operations and vacuum induction casting, to optimize processing and develop next generation systems. In these activities, the candidate will work in a small high-performance team, demonstrate effective communication with others, and apply technical expertise in his/her field of specialization to solve complex scientific and engineering problems. A successful candidate will also be able to assist in project planning and have demonstrated experience with preparing technical documents.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Plutonium Technology Division of SRNL performs engineering development and scientific research focused on advancing the nation's nuclear deterrence. These activities support several NNSA missions and include design, fabrication, and testing of one-of-a kind prototype systems, supporting analytical and material characterization measurements, investigation of novel compositions for solidifying and disposing of aqueous wastes, and utilization of computational modeling and advanced manufacturing methods to streamline future operations, increase quality, and minimize waste. The Plutonium Technology Division is looking for people who can use their talents and experience to assist in growing its plutonium science and engineering portfolio and deliver the highest quality programs to its customer.
