In the role of a Librarian II you will be working in our Reearch Office.

Purpose

The Office of Research helps to facilitate life-saving biomedical research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Nine distinct units provide specialized support to meet the administrative needs of our investigators and research staff. Together we coordinate, regulate, and monitor research studies as well as provide high quality services for investigative teams. The MCW Libraries supports all institutional missions and partners by providing access to and support for information resources, and specialized services for faculty, researchers, students, clinicians, staff, and community members.

The Clinical Research and Education Librarian supports clinicians, educators, and students at the Medical College of Wisconsin and affiliated institutions. They assist in the planning, coordination and promotion of the library's educational resources and services to clinical departments, resident trainees, and degree programs. Additionally, the Librarian documents work functions to assess impact and improve services. Additionally, the Librarian develops and delivers information skills training and library services to support clinical research, patient care, and teaching and learning. This is a hybrid on-site role with a primary work location at the Medical College of Wisconsin Todd Wehr Library.

Primary Functions

  • Plan, develop, and assess services for Medical College of Wisconsin clinicians, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Develop, document, and deliver library services that align with the curriculum and research needs of students and faculty in designated degree programs, ensuring access to relevant resources, instruction, and support.
  • Provide research and information services to various departments and research teams as part of the library's clinical medical librarian service.
  • Support and document scholarly activities that enhance clinical research and education.
  • Provide occasional support for the library's scientific poster printing service.
  • Provide instructional services including teaching, developing tutorials, and designing instructional materials.
  • Promote library resources and services to the user communities served.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Knowledge of academic health sciences library biomedical information resources and operations.
Experience with health sciences resources and knowledge of health information.
Experience with developing and delivering in-person and virtual instruction.
Ability to work with diverse individuals across the institution to foster inclusion and belonging, particularly as it relates to providing information services.
Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to successfully adapt to and manage change.
Ability to identify and overcome obstacles to getting the work done.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to solve problems logically.

Position Requirements:

Specifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Master's Degree or higher in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution, or equivalent

Minimum Required Experience: 2 years of experience, preferably in an academic health sciences center setting

Field of Study: Healthcare, Education, Library Services

Certification: Medical Library Association Academy of Health Information Professionals credentials preferred
