Salary: 70,000-100,000/yearly

Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of VP of Finance, is responsible for the development and implementation of safety and regulatory policies, practices, and procedures in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and agencies. Develops appropriate written guidelines, rules, procedures, and educational materials to create and enforce a culture of safety within the company.
  • Continually evaluate, improve, implement, and maintain health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to protect employees, customers, assets and comply with company, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, conduct, monitor and track all new employee orientation and employee safety training necessary to meet or exceed industry requirements and to ensure that all employees have the skills to keep themselves, others, and our company safe and compliant.
  • Directs an effective safety committee comprised of Evergreen FS employees that shall meet on a regular basis to promote safety throughout the company. Complies with GROWMARK safety requirements and strives to consistently be recognized as one of the top three companies for safety excellence.
  • Investigates and reports on all accidents and environmental problems caused by or involving Evergreen FS employees, contractors, or hired workers for which the company is directly or in-directly responsible. Properly records all incidents and makes recommendations to for corrective actions to prevent a recurrence.
  • Assists department VPs with companywide insurance claims.
  • Works in conjunction with the HR department on all worker compensation claims, and all DOT/FMCSA requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Provides leadership, direction and develops plans to comply with local, state, and federal requirements on all environmental and regulatory issues for all areas of the company.
  • Carries out all necessary actions to ensure that the company obtains all necessary permits, certifications, and compliance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Conducts all necessary assessments, updates, or assists with updates, to Tier II reporting, Risk Management Plans (RMP), Emergency Response Plans (ERP), Emergency Action Plans (EAP), Hazardous Communication Action Plan, Respirator Protection Program, Severe Weather Plan and DOT Security Plans as needed. Ensures all Evergreen FS employees are familiar with required plans.
  • Responsible for effective communications to the VP of Finance of problems and opportunities in the areas of Safety and Regulatory operations. Create, maintain, and provide the VP of Finance a schedule and calendar of dates for compliance of all safety, environmental, and regulatory reports, licenses, permits etc. for all Evergreen facilities and business activities.
  • Manages all activities associated with subcontracting with vendors for services and equipment. Reviews and incorporates, as appropriate, safety and health standards originated by government agencies. Keeps fully informed on all existing and proposed changes in government agency regulations, protective equipment requirements, and permit requirements.
  • Tracks and maintains training records for all employees and determines training requirements. Schedules and coordinates mandatory safety training. Updates and maintains safety and compliance record-keeping system information.
  • Ensures that all required paperwork and documentation is in place for all company vehicles, facilities, and offices to meet regulations required by DOT, OSHA, Homeland Security, and Insurance Provider.
  • Files and distributes MSDS sheets routinely as requested from customers and suppliers.
  • Verifies, maintains, and updates Certificates of Insurance from contractors as needed.
  • Attends regional Environmental, Health, Safety and Insurance compliance meetings presented by the GROWMARK Safety and Insurance Services Department, works with GROWMARK staff, and uses materials developed or approved by GROWMARK to promote and achieve compliance throughout the company.
  • Maintains working relationships with and provides support for local regulatory and service agencies.
  • Follows Evergreen's Code of Conduct and corporate compliance program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Normally requires a bachelor's degree in business, Safety, Industrial Technology, Environmental or related discipline, or the equivalent thereof, and 5 or more years of related work experience to demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to meet or exceed the essential job function requirements.
  • Demonstrated essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, organization, customer focus, decision making and skill development.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Must have the ability to travel independently and overnight.
  • Ability to work extended hours and on-call as business conditions warrant.
  • Required to be knowledgeable in all areas of regulatory compliance which includes local, state, and federal regulations through agencies including, but not limited to: EPA, OSHA, DOT, DNR, DATCP, and NFPA.
  • Occasionally exposed or required to:
    • Extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc.)
    • Noisy conditions
    • Working conditions may include dust, fumes, chemicals, and electrical hazards with appropriate safety measures
    • Work at varying heights
    • Lift 21-50 lbs.
    • Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on Evergreen's policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.

Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. In addition to base pay, certain roles may be eligible for bonuses, incentives, and commissions.
